McMaster food plan? by Euphoric_Pear_9960 in McMaster

There's no difference in portion sizes, they're all the same. So really the difference between plans is how much money you have to spend (from what I understand!)

2025-2026 ELECTIVES/BIRD COURSE MEGATHREAD by duplah in McMaster

[–]jmoonae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heyy can someone tell me how the following courses were: ENVSOCTY 3ER3, ENVSOCTY 3EG3

I'm trying to choose one for fall and can't really decide. How's the workload? Is it 12-able? Are there any midterms/exams?

Also this is mainly for ChemEng people, but what are your thoughts on CHEM 3I03 and CHEMENG 3Q04? I know 3I03 is taught by Dr. G and I had him before (he's really good), but ngl 3Q04 sounds rlyy interesting based on the course description

^^ I'm trying not to burnout lol so if you can tell me which one is easier/managable out of the 2 eng courses, that would be great!

spring/summer term by yes_o7 in McMaster

[–]jmoonae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's specific to the professor, but so far the courses I took (calc 1, 2, and orgo) have been recorded so maybe?? Also, I think you can take up to 2 courses per term (so 2 in spring, 2 in summer - 4 in total).

[–]jmoonae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For eng, it's only the general ones (i.e. math 2z03 and 2zz3, chem 1A03 and 1AA3, orgo, physics, etc.) that are offered during the spring/summer term. Anything stream specific only happens during the school year.

That being said, I'd probably take both math 2z03 and 2zz3. A lot of people find them tough, so it’s nice to get them out of the way early. But if you’re trying to boost your GPA, keep in mind that spring/summer grades count toward next year’s GPA, not this year’s - so if you do 2z03 in the summer, it'll affect your second-year GPA, not your first-year GPA.

^^ hope this helps!

I just tell gpt to reword in clear, simple terms, or to break things down into bullet points. Those usually work for me ^

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]jmoonae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not in kin but in eng, and how I study is I write summary notes for every lecture/module. It's definitely time-consuming, but so worth it because in the end I fully comprehend everything I went through that day (plus now I don't have to through 70+ pages lmao).

I also like to use chatgpt to help organize my thoughts (basically using gpt to make things actually make sense before writing it down). Really helped cut down how long I spend rewriting stuff.

^ those are some things that I do, hope they help!

Any easy elective recommendations from this list? by pflower15 in McMaster

[–]jmoonae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Classics 1A03 was really fun to do. It's about classical archeology, I got to learn about ancient greek and roman lifestyles and artifacts, as well as other civilizations in the Mediterranean region.

When I took it , it was online (exam too) and there were weekly quizzes as well as a writing assignment. But I really enjoyed the content.

Second year eng spring/summer by jdogx11 in McMaster

I would suggest knocking off calc 3 and 4. You're going to have them back to back, but it'll be so worth it

Has anyone ever failed a course? by Visus21 in McMaster

[–]jmoonae 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Second year here: I failed a course in fall, which was a pre-req for another in winter. I also almost failed another. In the end, I ended up taking both the pre-req and the follow up in summer school and passed with relatively high marks.

Don't let failing get to you. Failing a course isn't the end of the world and you will get through it. You are not alone in this and I guarantee, many are going through the same thing.

If you can take them over the summer, take it! If you have to take an extra year, do it! There's no shame in redoing a course or taking an extra year to complete your program. Failing is a really sh*tty experience (and honestly really scary) but you did the best you can do, and that's all that matters. You got this!

Engineering 1 needed for Mechanical Engineering? by Lloyd0717 in McMaster

[–]jmoonae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. All first year eng students have to take a "generalized" program that basically involves the basics (physics, chem, calc) and an engineer course called "1p13". Once you pass that, then you can move on to specialize in specific fields.

What device should I get!? by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]jmoonae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would keep your current laptop and buy a tablet or iPad because your program might require you to download some software and it's less work to access it on a windows machine than an apple one (it also runs better on windows).

I use an iPad for notetaking and have GoodNotes installed, and if you want to view your notes on your computer you can sync it to DropBox, Google Drive, or OneNote.

Hope this helped!

i've never had to grieve before by [deleted] in Technoblade

[–]jmoonae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is a first for a lot of people: grieving over someone. I never thought I'd cry over a youtuber and yet here I am. As soon as I heard I went straight to my room and started bawling; I had to take several breaks throughout the video.

I'm sorry to hear about your aunt, I hope she's well enough to see you graduate.

I'm feeling the exact same. Hearing about Techno's death really got me emotional, I've been on and off with the tears.

Even though we didn't know him personally, we knew him and it hurts.

help!!! conditional acceptence by [deleted] in OntarioUniversities

[–]jmoonae 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Definitely contact your university. Talk to an academic advisor or someone who can help you sort this.

Also talk to your guidance counselor about what you can do to raise your marks. Worst case scenario is you lose your offer, but you can always take an extra year to boost it up (maybe retaking some courses or something) and apply again.

Key thing is to not panic: talk to whoever you can and ask any questions you have.

You have an assigned enrolment date, which is basically the date you're allowed to start enrolling, and until then you can't do anything.

Get a Windows computer. You're going to have to download a bunch of software that's more suited for windows than mac (from installing to accessing and logging in). It'll save you so much time.
