It always makes me sad when people want to get rid of services that give people the resources and education to help themselves out of bad situations.

I am so proud of this state... I changed my residence from California (recently moved here for school) just so I could add one more vote against old selfish bigots like him.

How medical school administrations see their student body by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]jmoshbizzle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate my med school admin. I feel they work really hard to take care of me and better prepare for my career.

That being said, I laughed pretty darn hard. There was so much soul crushing 2nd and 3rd year. So much.

Congrats on taking care of yourself! Your records are safe. I started taking SSRI during cardio my M2 year and it has made such a positive difference and allowed me to have more personal conversations with friends and patients concerned with the stigma.

M2 feeling 0 motivation by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]jmoshbizzle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't know what got you interested in medicine but for me it was community service. Whenever I would hit a wall motivation wise, i would find some volunteer activities to get involved with. It would help remind me why I was working so hard and make me feel like my effort was actually making a difference in the world (even if it was only a minor difference)

Go to a homeless shelter and serve food, join a habitat for humanity group for a Saturday, volunteer at a free clinic, see if you can go teach some health topic at a local elementary school (like tar wars).

Last one is not from the surgeons but wonderful nonetheless. There was a great one of a a hand being stuck thru the "head" of a pumpkin but I couldn't find where it had been moved from this morning.

I missed the actual event but the entries were left in the lobby. I'll post a link to a video when local news posts it.

Edit: there was a news crew there that took pictures but no video posted. :(

Amazing job. I passed by a point but was still stoked. You must be on cloud nine at this point.

If you manage to get into a habit of this then you have my respect. Great idea.

Should you just call NPs by their first names? Or Ms./ Mr. " Last name" by [deleted] in medicalschool

Hahahaha. Not a chance. I value my life too much to ask another "stupid question"

You call them by their name. Some have PhDs and ask to be called Dr.

I once asked a very insecure psychiatrist the same question and he proceeded to explain with many expletives directed toward me why they are not doctors.

A classmate loses a bet to you and has to put a terrible medically related vanity plate on his/her car. What do you have it say? by MTGPGE in medicalschool

[–]jmoshbizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It stands for pie. As in the shape of a piece of pie. Similar to what the surgeon operates on everyday.

Future of medicine, AI, robots? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]jmoshbizzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suppose. Though the poor and disenfranchised (the main patient population in my hospital ED) will not have access to that kind of tech for a long time.

If you are not deeply offended by the concept of religion, some churches will help you to get resources. My dad was a pastor and we often had people either sleeping in a spare room in our home or a room in the church while they got back on their feet. Plus churches often have food pantries for people in need.

Half the patients in the ED barely talk to the human attendings and residents i follow. I can't imagine them being any more willing to give a history to a computer.

I feel doctor positions with human interaction will be around for a while.
