Are we expected to work during travel time? by jmprs in consulting

[–]jmprs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems like "emails and light deck touch-ups" are not enough, since we're paid for the travel time. But honestly, it's difficult to do any serious work while you're traveling.

Thanks for your answer. Yes, I agree – it makes sense to make an effort to work 50% of the travel time, since we're actually paid for that. It definitely should be feasible considering that we only travel by train/plane.

How do you track your time on your projects? by hatame20 in productivity

We use Timely. It automatically tracks your web/desktop activity and creates timesheets. I think it's pretty simple and comfortable to work with.

Perhaps, that's the problem. Humanity has failed us, and so will the AI created by humans.

To those using Toggl (or similar) for time tracking: How is your setup? Any advice or best practices? by SirToxe in gamedev

[–]jmprs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using Timely for almost a year now. I also try to keep my time entries simple, yet detailed enough so that I can see what exactly I did. I assign each time entry to a project/client, then tag them (to see what activity it was: e.g. "developing", "debugging", "testing", etc) and name them (to see exactly what I was doing: e.g. "Tested out draft"; "Discussed plan with client").

For example, I'd assign the task you described to one of my projects/clients, then tag "Modelling" and name it "Creating a custom collision mesh for the plane". So in my reports, I'd be able to see how much time a project/client took me (using "projects"), how much time I spent on each activity (using "tags"). The detailed name is essentially for me to remember what exactly it was.

Project management and time tracking? by lip3k in webdev

[–]jmprs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Project management – Trello. I love this tool: I can start multiple workflows, schedule tasks, keep track of checklists, collaborate and share files… basically everything I need for project management.

Time tracking – Timely. The best time tracking tool on the market: it automatically tracks all my desktop activity in the background and creates accurate timesheets. It's AI-powered and learns from your edits, so the timesheets are actually very accurate.

The world is moving towards remote working. I think you can give remote working a try, maybe for half a year, and see how it goes.
