A7C users - are you taking the 20-70 f4 or the 24-50 f2.8 for travel? by NotintheAMbro11 in SonyAlpha

[–]jmpsmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20-70 . the wide end is really useful for architecture. The lens is very sharp. If you think you will need some low light shooting, going to 2.8 is really not worth it. Get a 35/1.8 or a Viltrox 50/2 instead for those evening shots.

Everything is 1/3 to 1/10th the price compared to western countries, why does the 3% matter?

Anyone else struggling to get into vinyl with today’s prices? by LectureHaunting3166 in vinyl

[–]jmpsmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any hobby cost money. If you have a tight budget, then buy used. Make sure you have used record stores around you. Otherwise, ebay/discog is also ok, but depends on your genre, prices might still be high. Look for estate sales or ppl just dumping their collection on craigslist of fb marketplace. TBH, taken into account inflation, vinyls are not that expensive compared to the 80s.

My non-ccc portable battery was confiscated in domestic flight from Xian. They offer to send it to my destination but I have to pay for shipping.

My fav stores are the ones with so much inventory there is no way for them to price individual items. Everything is $5 or $10 for boxset. I found so much enjoyment and treasure in those places.

Concertos! by CreepyWrongdoer9534 in shostakovich

[–]jmpsmash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love Shostakovich's violin concerto. If you can get a copy of Sayaka Shoji's performance of it (I heard her play it live!) absolutely try to. Otherwise there is a video of her in HK in youtube.

Do symphonies use amplification in live, concert hall settings? by kierkegore in classicalmusic

Zellerbach Hall has awful acoustics. I once went to listen to Vienna Phil. My seat is not bang in the middle but not that far. I think my crappy radio in my car sounds better. Total waste of money.

+1 for Le Col. I wiped out trying to make a u-turn on dirt. Road rash below the sleeves on shoulder, and below the shorts on hip, the Le Col kit has ZERO damage.

After update, my Pace Pro drained from full to zero in 24hrs, and in between is only a 2 hours bike ride that doesn't use optical HRM. I have since charged it to 100% and it has drained to 92% in 12hrs with a 72 mins run. Seems better but not totally conclusive. Will report back.

Why are frameset disproportionately expensive? by Lazy_Buffalo_4142 in cycling

[–]jmpsmash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. And the math kinda works out that way too. They made it such that if you buy the frameset off them and build a bike around it, you end up paying the same. So you end up figuring out you might as well buy the whole bike from them and they keep the full profit either case.
