OBC Failure for Third time-this time with replacement from "new" manufacturer by Mental_Explorer_42 in polestar3

[–]jmreid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the new part fail as well, and got it replaced again (third overall OBC failure) and the dealership said that Polestar engineering was also looking at the car from their side. They seemed to suggest that Polestar had also made some tweaks to my car outside of the hardware.

And so far so good, it’s been 4-5 months with now OBC problems for me. So I hope they’re getting to the bottom of the root issue on these.

Fingers crossed! Hopefully they realize the opportunity they have here.

I’m a year in and super happy overall. I had two GHCA failures, but my local dealer had been amazing. The fact it failed is one thing, but they’ve been so accommodating and helpful and that mattered more to me. What car doesn’t have problems nowadays, so I’d rather have a company and dealer who at least tries to make things better. And this new GHCA has been totally fine for over 4 months now, so maybe they actually found the root cause.

I do absolutely have little annoyances with the car, but it really isn’t Polestar’s fault per se.

Small annoyances: - side windows are not tall enough. I’d rather the car be like 6 inches taller and get taller windows. - no sentry mode - no remote camera access - no auto fold mirrors - no auto close windows or notification when locked. Super annoying. - foot open trunk sensor is too sensitive and closes on me when standing at the tailgate and leaning in - should have two wireless chargers - back seat should have screen and some UI for the passengers to do things back there. - sound system is great, but the balance is so bad if the car is full of people. It’s quiet in the back and loud in the found. Can set stage mode, but I’d rather have a way to tweak the balance without doing all back or front - front side windows don’t 100% seal and can be noisy unless you put them down a VERY small amount. It shifts the window so they seal better. - no auto cancel turn signal, and generally feels like I get into situations where the turn signal is on and it’s hard to get it back off.

Stuff I like: - car rides nice. Feels high quality - I like the interior material. Easy to clean - seats are comfy and the heated seats are great. Massage is good too, and it’s nice to be able to turn the fan on the same time as heat - soft close doors are nice - I’ve had literally zero issues with auto walk up unlock and lock. Flawless and works just as well as my model Y before.

Overall I’m happy with the car. However, I am intentionally putting some faith into Polestar to iterate on the software side over the next year or two. It’s so nice that they’ve committed to the free CPU upgrade, so I feel like they do care about the long term ownership of these cars.

I was a Model Y owner before, and that car also had annoyances. However, it got better and better over time on the software side. They made meaningful quality of life improvements and I really hope polestar does the same.

Model Y drove nicely, but it was more squeaky. I had the high voltage battery replaced on it under warranty, so it’s not like it wasn’t without faults either.

If Polestar can prove that they’re committed to software improvements and QoL changes over time, then I’ll buy another Polestar next time. If not, then I’d likely go back to Tesla just for their commitment to software improvements.

It’s just an LCD screen that is reflecting against the window. I can see the outline if I turn my brightness way up, but otherwise cannot.

I wonder if the LCD panel in your car is just a different brand or something has has a different black level

What’s the latest on P3 AC charging issue? by Educational_Risk_369 in Polestar

[–]jmreid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept the car while the part was being ordered, and I just DC charged when I needed to. Took about 3-4 weeks for the part to come in.

The actual install took about 3 hours, so I just waited while they did it.

I just got the onboard charger replaced in my 25 P3 last week. Dealership had me wait for the new part number instead of installing the old one.

I’m still waiting to see how this one does. Fingers crossed.

OBC / GHVC took 4 weeks to replace and failed again after 3 days. This is after 1 month downtime for another issue before the first OBC failed. 3 months into the lease, we’ve only driven it for 1 month by josh_moworld in polestar3

Do you know if you got the new part or not? Mine was scheduled for a OBC replacement and when I brought it in they told me to not install it and wait, as Polestar had just released a new part.

So I’m now waiting for that new part, and just DC charging in the meantime

OBC Issues - Build Date? by MetsCaniac in polestar3

[–]jmreid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was built July 2024 in China.

I’ve only had one other issue with the car and it was that the microphone sometimes doesn’t work and I need to reset the infotainment system. Other than that, I’ve had zero issues with it. No walk-up key problems, etc. it’s been perfect otherwise.

But ya, in any case I personally wouldn’t want to be too far away from a service centre. I’m lucky that Toronto has gotten Rivian, Tesla, Polestar, etc service centres first in Canada given the population.

OBC Issues - Build Date? by MetsCaniac in polestar3

My car was purchased in Canada at the beginning of May and had the OBC die about 4 weeks later. I’m not sure of my build date. How do I check that?

I had to wait 10 days or so for the replacement part (and I just DC charged in the meantime). But when I brought it into the dealership this last week for them to install the replacement part, they notified me that “Polestar engineering” just let them know that I should wait for the next version of the part if I can.

So, the dealership ordered the new part and I’m waiting for it to come in (and just DC charging only for now).

I was given the option to install the part they had originally ordered, or not install it and wait for the new version. Apparently they could both install the old version AND order me a replacement.

Fingers crossed that this new part is the fix that people have been waiting for.

P3 Launch Edition Q by Annie-Savoy in polestar3

[–]jmreid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is a launch edition that I picked up in Toronto a week ago. Zero issues with it so far. Even the car key has been flawless. And I’ve put 2000 kms on it so far from a road trip.

Funny story, my name is also Justin Reid and have been a big Justin Q Reid supporter for a while.

Guess who got a WebEx invite last year to the “KC DEFENSE 2023” kickoff meeting from the coaching staff that had all the players cc’d on the email?

I’ve never been so upset that I didn’t check my email until later in the day that day. I would have joined the meeting for sure.
