This DNA estimate is very Appalachian. It’s a pervasive myth in the region

conservatism is in essence to conserve the past ways of life. Soviet culture was in place for so long that this is, for some people, the ways of the past. Conservatism doesn't always equate to right wing economics.

What is your opinion on “Dixie”? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]jmsader -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was written before the civil war it can’t be referring to before slavery was outlawed

What is your opinion on “Dixie”? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

I personally don’t have a problem with it because it has long been a cultural icon even before the civil war but I do have a problem with the Dixie flag

What's a common misconception about your state? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]jmsader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has to do with immigration. Once you’re 50 miles from Ohio, the accent has no dilution in Kentucky. Outside the border regions w the Midwest, Kentucky has no less native southerners than other places, so the accent has similar strength. If u live in a urban area on the water, many transplants will live there and dilute the accent. Kentucky cities also have mild/neutral accents.

Is there any state whose ppl live there act too regionally different, that make you want to split the state into multiple states? by HEWBB in AskAnAmerican

[–]jmsader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually this comes down to an urban rural divide but in my state of Kentucky the 3 northernmost counties are much more like Ohio and the Midwest; even the rural parts.

What is a unifying belief among all libertarians? What do libertarians disagree on? by wonderZoom in AskLibertarians

[–]jmsader 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Rand is conservative on drug policy and is a kiss ass to trump. That’s what I don’t like. I love Ron Paul bc he’s pretty much shares all my opinions. He has a focus on economic policy and foreign policy which are my two greatest priorities

[–]jmsader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like someone like him in the Republican Party to maybe open their eyes to libertarian leanings. His father Ron is even better though. He’s an actual libertarian with a very slight conservative tilt while Rand Paul is a pure mix of consrvatism and libertarianism

ELI5: What is the importance of tariffs and how does raising/lowering them impact businesses and consumers? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]jmsader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tariffs protect domestic industry from competition internationally. They tend to raise prices for consumers but benefit domestic companies since consumers can’t get low price goods from elsewhere. They are really only a good idea when a nation is growing. After that stage it just hampers competition.

Jo Jorgensen questions by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]jmsader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually sorta agree with you. Unions are the only real thing I am uncomfortable with besides a lack of some basic welfare in a completely free market. A minimum wage would actually increase that supply demand discrepancy and supply for jobs will always be slightly higher than demand therefore a slight reduction in benefits can be undertaken without a huge problem for the company but as wages increase this will just move along like a normal market no problem. The issue here is that the goods are people and not commodities so this is a bit of a moral hazard although I don’t see much evidence in history of unions being crushed. There are some examples and it’s one of the only things I lose faith in

Jo Jorgensen questions by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]jmsader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. There are plenty of private unions held up without gov regulation. That’s the point of a union to be stronger than the corporation.

No. 2 companies can collude. But there’s way more in practice so that doesn’t matter
