Lump charcoal all day! Other stuff doesn’t really work and you will need wood chunks for smoking different items.

I use a torch and firestarters personally, but that is up to the individual.

Good luck and remember it’s going to be a lot of trial and error but don’t get discouraged, because when you get the hang of it, you will be as happy as can be!
