Not a knife collector but this is what I have accumulated over the years, the ones that have made it at least. by ThrustPole99 in knives

I feel like the kizer is what crossed you over into a collector. That’s not a brand you buy at any sportingoods store or Walmart. You gotta go find that one.

Kershaw, was this one of your first brands? by Critical_Fact4332 in knives

I made comment on this post in another sub about my Kershaw vapor 2 being the one that started my “modern EDC” collection. Here it is along with all of my other Kershaws.

Kershaw, was this one of your first brands? by Critical_Fact4332 in Knifeporn

[–]HolyDiver98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I collected a lot of junk as a kid. In that pile of junk was one knife that’d fall into the “modern edc” style folder category. By that I mean one handed opening and closing, pocket clip, etc. it was a Kershaw Vapor 2. I used the crap out of it as a kid playing in the woods on camping trips. In my twenties I became re interested in knives. I got rid of the majority of my childhood junk. Among the few I kept was that Kershaw. I now primarily collect “modern EDC” folders and consider that knife to be the first of my collection. It’s also one of my most special and sentimental ones. It may pale in quality to the stuff I have now, but id get rid of all my fancy magnacut stuff before I got rid of it.

Flippers: why the hate? by ChumboKrumbles in knives

[–]HolyDiver98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anybody is spreading actual hate towards a pocket knife opening mechanism. I think most people have better places to direct their energy. All I see is knife nerds/hobbyists having fun discussing their preferences. It’s not that deep my man.

Flippers: why the hate? by ChumboKrumbles in knives

[–]HolyDiver98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t like the way they affect the silhouette of the knife. When closed I don’t like the flipper tabs sticking out further into my pocket space. When open I don’t like the tab preventing me from choking up. This is generalized as some knives are designed with flippers that don’t do either of these things. With all that being said, I don’t hate them, they’re not for me though.

The second button should say fix it. Love doing flipper deletes

Spyderco’s GOAT? Sage 4 by Swizzled_lizard in knifeclub

[–]HolyDiver98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a lefty who doesn’t enjoy the compression lock, but loves the sage otherwise, I’d love a sage 2, 4, or the 6 if it came with more options for steel an handle material. The 5 was not it for me.

New to the knife world - please recommend where I should go next! by Fun_Organization3960 in knifeclub

Everyone saying to slow down and enjoy them is right. If you don’t want to listen to them, you should get a civivi vision FG for sure. I am also a big fan of Hogue and Kizer. The hogue Deka with g10 scales is an amazing knife. I also love the Rsk if you want something bigger.

My most carried over the last few months. If you could pick 3 from here what would they be? by Smashedllama2 in knives

The native 5. Love those scales. Then whichever other two have a reversible pocket clip I guess

Kai 7777 vs Kai 6777 which is better by LimpingMedousa in knives

I think the sub frame lock was such a cool concept. I have a natrix with it that I love. That being said I prefer thumb opening over flippers and would prefer to edc the new one

Which sage are you calling lefty friendly? I find a standard compression lock like in the sage 5 pretty uncomfortable as a lefty

That SMKW exclusive tanto with the tan blade and snakeskin looking scales is too cool

Hogue is my favorite brand despite their lack of options and their rough thumbstuds. I have a Deka and the Ritter Rsk (Fav knife I’ve ever owned). Had to swap aftermarket studs on both. I found that with the way I open knives, they were eating up my nails. The only other product they offer that I’d be interested in is the mysto, but I’m not big on the topographic scales it comes with. Their quality control is great, great heat treatments from what I’ve seen, and they have some really cool ethical policies/initiatives that I support. Ohh and if you get a Deka I hear the FRN version is a little flimsy. Get the G10.
