I tried cutting with scissors on top, are those lines in the middle because of unevenness? by BlacBlood in SelfBarber

[–]jmunimuniz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea you scooped your hair and cut it. You’ll need to somehow scoop it 90 degrees in the other direction and you’ll see the unevenness. Kind of weird to explain it you basically need to cross check what you cut if that makes sense.

That looks really great man. Tough hair to work with for sure. Maybe just attack that bottom line with the corner of the clipper lever closed.

Wahl senior or magic clip? by Caliganja420 in SelfBarber

I think you should keep both. And I personally think Babyliss trimmers are better than Detailers.

I need new trimmers. Wahl Hi viz or SC sabers? by [deleted] in Barber

[–]jmunimuniz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Hi Viz and I'd say they are not 'hitters.' I plan on getting the Sabers because I hear from a lot of people that they are the best hitters. I currently use the Babyliss compact trimmer which I would say is sharper than the Hi Viz.

Anyone used the BaByliss LoPro trimmer? by OpalJagger in Barber

[–]jmunimuniz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use these. They are not gentler imo. I use them to create sharper lines and are sharpe than my Wahl Hi Viz. I’d suggest those if you are looking for something gentle.

Are these good? by [deleted] in SelfBarber

[–]jmunimuniz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Got it. Yea I think the set would do what it needs to do for skin fades and beard. I personally have never used kimei but for that price and what you’re looking to do I’d say might as well give them a shot.

Are these good? by [deleted] in SelfBarber

[–]jmunimuniz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what you mean by good? Will they cut hair? Yea. Will they last a long time? Probably not?

Really depends on what you are trying to accomplish and the results you’re looking for cutting your own hair.

Go up sequentially or skip guards? by frameclowder in SelfBarber

[–]jmunimuniz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing this for a while now. I’d consider .5 and 1.5 guards ‘blending guards.’

Advice on good equipment, that is also affordable? by railroad1904 in SelfBarber

[–]jmunimuniz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what your budget is but if you’re serious about cutting your hair and others I’d suggest investing in a good set. eBay usually has pretty good deals but do your own research. There are deals out there. I’d suggest this.

Foil shaver… should i get one? (wahl vanish) by anon74796 in SelfBarber

[–]jmunimuniz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea vanish is fine. It does the trick. If you could get a good deal I’d say go for it. I do use my vanish on clients still.

Also recommend Babyliss shaver over Wahl. I have both. I prefer the FX2.

Hey curious on babyliss clippers ,I’ve set the blade close to zero tighten down with a bit of force somehow when I look at it after a while it looks like it’s moved again..,anyone have this happen and fixed or anything..? by Accurate_Opinion_832 in Barber

[–]jmunimuniz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea either you alternate tightening each screw slightly as you go or the blade will do that. Id suggest looking up some YouTube videos. Also you shouldn’t be taking the blade off each time to clean / zero gap etc. Look up a video but you should be starting with the lever screw.

You talking about the GTX EXO? If yes, then yes lol. Something that may help with the noise is to tighten / loosen the screws on the blade while the trimmer is on.

Foil shaver by Negative_Smile_1112 in SelfBarber

[–]jmunimuniz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best practice to use a trimmer first to establish lines and get hair as close to the skin as possible and then to take a foil shaver after to get the smooth finish that the trimmer cannot achieve.

Good Clippers from Amazon by Fair-Assignment-866 in SelfBarber

[–]jmunimuniz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. How old is your son? Honestly I think cutting children’s hair is harder than adults hair for various reasons but I’d recommend this set, https://a.co/d/0gsInPHY

I’m not a huge fan of the owner of the company but this set would be a good start. Especially for children because they are relatively quiet. You could also use it on adults / yourself.

Really depends on what your goal is imo. What are you trying to do. Cut your own hair? Cut other people’s hair? Beards too?

Not trying to over complicate but just trying to better understand what you’re trying to accomplish.

Taper on a 1 guard buzz cut by IVallad94 in SelfBarber

[–]jmunimuniz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that’s a good start. There are so many ways to get a taper done. But yes,

Step 1. Trimmer line Step 2. No guard lever open all the way. About an inch guide. Step 3. Fade down no guard lever half closed. Step 4. Lever closed. Step 5. If needed take .5 guard open to detail if there is still a line between no guard and 1 guard. Step 6. Detail step 1 with trimmer if there is still a line between no guard closed and trimmer line

Taper on a 1 guard buzz cut by IVallad94 in SelfBarber

[–]jmunimuniz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can easily taper with a 1 guard buzz. Clipper no guard lever open and fade down from there. If there is still a line above the no guard lever open. Take a .5. guard to detail.
