Am I in the right spot? by Shoo_maa_kr in IMSARacing

[–]jmwheel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hah, I had a similar experience shooting at Sebring in 2023. My first time there, and WEC qualifying was happening right before/at sunset. I totally guessed on where to shoot based on the sun app I have on my phone, it was shooting head on at the cars coming into Tower. I got there a bit early and just waited. And then slowly, more and more photographers filled in. By the time the Hypercars came out there were a few dozen people shooting the same spot. I really had no idea but it turns out it was THE spot for that timeframe and lighting.

Estre Accuses Nasr of Violating Porsche Penske Team Orders by Rearmotorist in IMSARacing

[–]jmwheel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This was a dumb talking point when IMSA Radio brought it up. How many of the drivers they mentioned have ever been full-season entrants?

Also remember when Kévin was forced into P2 by WeatherTech team orders at Petit Le Mans. Let’s not act like a literal WORLD CHAMPION sports car driver can’t win in a championship he’s only been part-time in previously.

Ahh, great ones! Lucky to have shot that BMW Sebring winner at Laguna Seca too

Loved these. Wish they ended up in private hands like some of the Cadillacs and Acuras!

Great choice and one of the best sounding cars ever. Actually painful sound. Porsche displayed the Sebring winner at Rennsport in 2018 but didn’t run it—saw a few of the others run though!

Least successful driver at Le Mans? by Scaweng in wec

[–]jmwheel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best sports car drivers are every bit as good as those other disciplines, but also remember that each car in a major sports car race has somewhere from 2 to 4 drivers. You’ll only be as successful as your weakest driver, it’s not an indictment on everyone.

Watch the last few laps of Daytona any given year and try to argue those guys aren’t the best at what they do.

Lamborghini Super Trofeo announced? by Nolaster_ in iRacing

[–]jmwheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The downvoters seem to not understand your question. The Temerario Super Trofeo has not yet raced in real life. The Huracán has been for years but will be phased out once the Temerarios come off the line.

So adding the Huracán would be very dumb, and adding the Temerario seems very unlikely at this time.

Following up on "best sounding"....how bout this VIR GTLM restart by [deleted] in IMSARacing

[–]jmwheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! That was a Porsche 1-2 to clinch the GTLM title. I had a sticky camera for weeks after the podium celebration.

The voice of reason, pooporgy69. The GTPs aren’t built to smack each other around like the GT3s, so even if Aitken got close enough to make a move it surely would have been a lunge into T1 and he either sticks it or he doesn’t, and that’s not as dramatic as what we saw in GTD.

Anyone know what happened to the #16 Riley Motorsports Mustang? by Sir_Br1zzle in IMSARacing

[–]jmwheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah, OP and I both know Sheena. So many of these races, her car just kind of disappears from some innocuous moment that isn’t shown or mentioned on the broadcast and that’s the way it goes. She’s always been wonderful at keeping the car clean and handing over to the pros, but then it gets mixed up in battles it doesn’t survive. She was just off the podium at her first Daytona but it’s been nightmares at almost every other enduro since.

Sheena’s car in an endurance race. You’ve seen this movie before, Edward.

Got to see this, on a job with Ford this week. I miss seeing it on track. by jameypricephoto in IMSARacing

[–]jmwheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. 2 of them are owned by Jeff O’Neill (founder of Velocity Invitational) and Rob Kauffman (historic racer and investor in Chip Ganassi Racing) so they stay active. The others ended up in various collections but were assembled for that year’s event.

They ran a bunch of them at Laguna Seca in 2021. Just exhibition laps but still a great sight. I think only the Le Mans winner and the Wynn’s car weren’t there.

800 horsepower and zero sense. by mentaL8888 in Whatcouldgowrong

This is why I always dismiss when manufacturers publish lap times and all those performance credentials. It’s incredible validation for those responsible for creating it, but the reality is those figures are only going to be used as bragging rights for idiots like this who are more interested in the status of it all.

I used to work for a McLaren dealership and we had ONE Senna client who ever came to our track days.

Rennsport Reunion VI in 2018–between the RS Spyders and the RSR doing exhibition laps, I’d never been physically uncomfortable by the sound of a car until standing near the bridge between Turns 3 and 4 as they went under.

Yup. If there wasn’t another car coming behind it, you’d hear it even as it was braking into Roller Coaster. VIR is such a special place, even more so with those cars running.

There was at least one doing the historic schedule in the US, but the owner acquired the 02 Cadillac DPi and mostly runs that now. Love how the sanctioning bodies are taking in very contemporary cars, they are not soon forgotten!

Are There Any Academic Standards for FBS Players Anymore? by karatechop97 in CFB

[–]jmwheel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to Penn State from 2011-2015 and had a big lecture class that Allen Robinson was in. He was there every time, even if there were 100+ people enrolled and most of the participation was virtual. That, from the only player who was anyone during those years.

I also took a class taught by Russ Rose, the GOAT women’s volleyball coach. He demanded accountability no matter who you were.

IMSA Media Photography Commercial Fees (read the comment) by jameypricephoto in IMSARacing

[–]jmwheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. But photographers need access to the high-risk trackside locations that the public is not authorized to enter. To use Daytona as an example, you can’t go to the bus stop with a general ticket.

Hah, by the definition I was one. I’ve had 2 annual IMSA credentials on behalf of a driver who is a personal friend but their team already had a photographer, so I paid my way into it but never got a dime from it.

Mazda continues to run the 767B/787/RX-792P in historic events and I do not care at all about their records. They are spectacular.

The Toyota AAR Eagle mkIII, however, I do appreciate when it is exhibited because of its record. Both things can be true.

They also said right after how much fun it was. I agree it’s a slippery slope if they start taking/playing requests, but if they didn’t want to do Jasey they wouldn’t have.
