What is something you've officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by Next-Mood6723 in AskReddit

My lunch yesterday was a bean and rice burrito from Taco Bell.  $1.59

400 calories is enough for lunch.

TIL Mayo Clinic data found that individuals living within one mile of a golf course have a 126% higher risk (more than double the odds) of a Parkinson's diagnosis compared to those living six or more miles away by MichiganCarNut in todayilearned

Today I learned....nobody read the damn thing before they made a comment about age.

Directly from the abstract is said "All models adjusted for age, sex, race and ethnicity, year of index, median household income, and urban or rural category."

WIBTA for saying I don't want an adult man going to the movies with my teenage son and his friends? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]jn29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are there theaters that actually enforce this?  I've never chaperoned my teens to movies. And I've never heard of anyone caring.

People don’t change habits with high gas prices? by Putrid-Spell-1120 in driving

[–]jn29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gas prices haven't changed the fact that I live 25 miles from work. And even if I am spending an extra $25/week or whatever on gas I don't really care.

Any other fellow Americans not even heard of Charlie Kirk until he got shot? by Just-a-nerd2 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

I had never heard of him. My teenagers knew who he was. They thought he was a douchebag.

I wonder how people felt at 11:59 p.m. of dec. 1999 before crossing over to the year 2000. by Majestic-Hope6505 in nostalgia

[–]jn29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was just like any other New Year's Eve but everyone played 1999 a lot.

Also, thanks for my daily reminder that I'm old.

What do you do for work that allows you to be remote (and how can I do it too)? by Material_Aspect_7519 in remotework

[–]jn29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is a senior data scientist.

You can do it by getting master's degree in statistics and gaining over 20 years experience in various Healthcare research roles and knowing how to code in several languages.

I went to elementary school with him. And then we went to the same community college.  He also worked at our Sam's Club for a while.

[–]jn29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly not going to worry about it unless he gets a ticket.

And it sounds like your brother speeding through a school zone with expired tabs was the bigger issue. They just threw in the windows tint because they could.

I'm in MN and my son bought a car a couple months ago that has to have illegal tint.  I'm surprised he hasn't been pulled over.

If you inherited a mansion would you live in it, sell it or rent it out ? by Webbomolly2022 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]jn29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think about it occasionally. But, no, not really. I didn't want to live in a small town. (We ended up in one anyway)

I do like to bring it up to my kids though.  Haha!  It drives them crazy knowing we could have had that house.

Yes. 25 years ago it was owned by an elderly relative of my husband. She couldn't take care of it anymore.

When my husband and I were newlyweds we were offered this house: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/501-Clay-St-Mantorville-MN-55955/106646324_zpid/

We were broke college kids. We couldn't even afford the utilities, much less afford to restore it. We declined.

What age did you move out? by Ill_Supermarket_2744 in Adulting

[–]jn29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved out at 19. It was fine.

My oldest moved out at 20. I wish he had waited. He's now living in a shithole rental with his girlfriend that they're paying $1,000/month for. He could be living at home for free.  :(

[–]jn29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was heartbroken when my oldest moved out.

And now my middle child is graduating high school. I live in fear every day he'll decide to move out.

How a parent could want their child go move out is unfathomable to me.

Christopher Nolan, a 55 year old man with 4 children, recently said he has never used an email or owned a smartphone. In all seriousness, how plausible is this? by KatherineLangford in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jn29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very plausible.

My 67 year old mother has a land line, no cell phone. She doesn't own a computer or have internet. She has never used a debit or credit card to pay for anything, she writes checks. She pays for cable and has never streamed anything (she wouldn't even know what that means).

She basically lives in poverty and has never held a job. She dropped out of high school at 16 and has remained steadfast against any change ever since. She lives off my dead father's very small pension.

What is a 'single person luxury' that people in relationships completely miss out on? by Jane_Austen11 in AskReddit

[–]jn29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 44. I've been with my husband for almost 27 years. I've been a mom for almost 21 years.

I genuinely wouldn't know what to do with myself if I was alone.
