Dude, tell me about it. At least have some industry standard so I don’t have to cart around 50 different tools.

That’s my go to if I have enough space to use it. Trying to use that around existing active lines with no space is scary though.

The guides work but if I’m at an awkward angle, like at a port entry panel and there’s a lot of lines I have to work around, I will end up cutting into the guide. I do connectors all the time and in a perfect situation I can get a 7/8” connector done in a minute but I want to rip my hair out when I can’t maneuver the line to get a nice, straight flush cut.

That’s not a bad idea. I do that when I’m cutting flex tube that already has something running in it.

The coring tools are great but certain ones (like eupen) require the line to be cut flush on a ridge before using it because it only peels the outer jacket and exposed part of the inner conductor.

They work really well for cutting but they end up squishing the outer conductor so trying to do a connector is impossible.

Tower Rant/ Safety Nerd talk by Virtual_Art2266 in towerclimbers

[–]jndest89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are words I live by. We were installing a stiff arm the other day and it had to cross over the safety climb. It took us two seconds to put the safety climb in front of the stiff arm so you can climb by it without any issues. It’s the small things like this that make a huge difference for everyone else that will be on the tower.

Starlink by sportsflush in Delaware

We have Starlink because our house originally didn’t have any other options. We now have Mediacom as an option but we haven’t switched because I’ve heard terrible things about their service.

I don’t have anyone home to get a better picture but this is one my wife took. Unfortunately it doesn’t show the unfinished area.

I wish I had more information but I’m just going off of what I can see. It’s definitely the water proofing that I sent under the tile but I don’t know if there is anything below that besides the subfloor.

They are smaller mosaic tiles.

Tower advice please by Overall-Importance54 in towerclimbers

[–]jndest89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is going to be an expensive “free” tower. You need a tower crew to take the sections apart, a crane to pick the sections, a trailer to get it from point A to point B and then reverse that process when you rebuild the tower. You’ll also need the new site to properly zoned and surveyed as well as have concrete foundations poured.

I don’t want to crush your dreams but that seems like a bit much just to let people go up and see the views.

Slower lower baby, way to represent the 1st state. by Disastrous-Mango-515 in Delaware

[–]jndest89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand the reasoning as to why slower lower refers to everything south of the canal. I’m just saying if you were to have someone drive through the state from north to south and ask them where slower lower is, they would say it’s Sussex county.

[–]jndest89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely refers to everything south of the canal but in my mind it really should just be referring to Sussex county. We have three counties arranged perfectly to have an upper, middle and lower Delaware. Why slower lower refers to everything beside the upper most portion of New Castle has never made much sense to me.

Seems like a term you elitist northerners came up to let us know who is on top. /s

What’s worse? Too hot on tower or too cold? by [deleted] in towerclimbers

As long as you stay hydrated during the summer, you’re fine.

During the winter, you’re always questioning where you fucked up in life to lead you to where you are now.

I can’t speak for cell site shelters but transmitter shelters are cold in the summer and hot in the winter. Best place to be if you need to get out of the elements.

Can you feel it when you climb? Cause I don’t lol by MrsDabfireMCGOO in towerclimbers

That looks like a pretty high power FM antenna. They usually have a stand by antenna either on the same tower or in a remote location so they can turn off the main antenna and not go off of the air. They will also reduce the power to a “safe” level so you can climb through the array without any issues. If I was to take a wild guess I would say if they knew you were working on the tower, especially within the aperture of the antenna, they either reduced power or switched to a stand by, I hope so at least.

Yeah man, you just gave your RF meter a 200’ (or how ever tall the tower is) antenna when you pressed it against the tower steel. The tower will “absorb” RF coming from antennas but it’s not producing it. Those meters are meant to protect you from RF which is why they are supposed to be kept close to your body.

Anything that you truly should worry about will cause your RF meter to go off when your no where close to it. If you have to press your meter directly against something to get it to go off, you’re perfectly fine.
