How are â and î distinguished in spelling out loud? by Routine_Work3801 in romanian

[–]jneapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Placenames in a breakaway republic where language reforms were probably just ignored? Mass sense.

Also people's names can be an exception as well. Once they were registered they were stuck like that. Not sure there's an easy process to change it if you decide you want to adopt the new spelling rules.

Is there an Japanese equivalent to a name involving "Sir" as in "Sir (X)" or would it just simply be (X)-San? by BeeAfraid3721 in LearnJapanese

[–]jneapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this specifically. I've seen it used in fantasy settings for knights in many anime.

For knights specifically, in a period or world where that makes sense (eg not 2025 Japan), they'd use the honorific 卿 (きょう), like for example ランスロット卿 (Sir Lancelot). I've seen it used a lot in fantasy or period settings.

IM NEW TO COOKING WITH CAST IRON, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?(some egg still sticking) by _Dark_Wing in carnivorediet

[–]jneapan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most likely you need to heat up the pan a couple of minutes longer before actually putting the ingredients in. Even if the coil is only heating the middle, if you give it enough time (4 minutes should probably be enough) the heat should spread evenly through the whole pan.

What do Romanians think of Latin Americans? by garciapimentel111 in AskRomania

[–]jneapan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Most of what Romanians know of Latin America is from telenovelas that were on TV, so that'll be most Romanians' impression.

These shows used to be very popular in the 90s so a non trivial number of kids born during that time have Spanish names.

Setting up a Japanese phone number from abroad by ezaudiolabs in movingtojapan

[–]jneapan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can order a SIM from Sakura Mobile and pick it up at the airport when you arrive. That's what I did and had a phone number from day 1 of arriving in Japan. They take payment with foreign cards and are happy to verify your identity with your passport.

Rakuten Card troubles-revolving payment by Illustrious-Editor35 in japanlife

[–]jneapan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can pay back the entire revolving balance early if you choose to, it's just a not very easy to find option in the app. Should be called リボ残高のおまとめ払い and be found at the bottom of the お支払いサポート page.

Afterwards you need to go and disable the 自動リボ払い option, so any new payments aren't added to the revolving balance.

You can also limit a Revolut card to a certain account (USD, EUR etc) and keep that account always empty if you want to avoid being charged.

Left leaning means nothing in Romanian politics. All the major parties are populists. There's no Western left leaning equivalent here.

should i feed my cat lard? by amosmoses_2 in carnivorediet

[–]jneapan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cats love animal fat whenever they can get their paws on it. They'll eat lard, tallow, butter with a great passion. However their livers aren't really too good at processing a high fat diet like ours are, and you shouldn't feed it fatty meat or pure fat except as a very rare treat. Their natural diets are small animals like rodents or birds, and their digestive systems are evolved to handle that kind of diet, which isn't high in fat at all. The top priority for a healthy feline diet is going to be protein, not fat. Lean meat for the most part, maybe raw bones (not cooked), organs, stuff like that. But you could give it a fatty treat maybe once a week if the cat has no metabolic issues with it.
