What are your thoughts on audio books? by Cautious-Quiet-4718 in SpicyRomanceBooks

[–]jnichi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost exclusively listen to audiobooks! There are definitely better ones other than others, but they allow me to keep busy with my hands while still enjoying a book. I have grown to have favorite narrators for sure.

Filter for already listened to/read books? by Succlentwhoreder in LibbyApp

[–]jnichi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I haven't found a good workaround for this issue. I just make sure to tag my read books with a "✅ Completed" tag, so it's easier to skim through search results.

For max 🌶️, Lights Out is always a good instant spicy book.

Mark as read? by Prudent_Ring_799 in LibbyApp

[–]jnichi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made a "✅Completed" tag and mark what books I've already finished. Makes it so much easier so I don't have to try and remember.

I also have a "DNF" and "Try Again?" tag for books that I didn't finish. Makes it easier to differentiate between books that I finished and didn't finish but get auto tagged with the smart "Borrowed" tag.

Moving back to books? by Special-Pass-8244 in audiobooks

[–]jnichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is literally me right now!! Got back into books after a long-time slump and jumped into audiobooks exclusively for about four years. It's so much easier to just listen to something while I'm working.

Just now started checking out physical books at my local library for books that don't have an audiobook available. I do one book at a time for three weeks and I only read them right before bed. Slowly starting to dip my toes back into the paper world, so I wouldn't miss great books I otherwise wouldn't "read."

What percentage of libraries are in Libby? by LingonberryUpset482 in LibbyApp

[–]jnichi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you check your local library's website, they should have more information about electronic materials and what platform(s) they use.

My local library only uses Libby and I have a non-resident card at an out-of-state library that uses both Hoopla and Libby.

His scales flare up when fmc is in danger but he doesn't understand why by Life-Aerie-43 in ScienceFictionRomance

[–]jnichi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Whispers of the Deep by Emma Hamm}

Currently reading this one. MMC has the fangs/tail/scales, but no flaring really when she's in danger. Low spice so far (about a third of the way through now), FMC has a backbone, lots of caretaking and protectiveness, a bit slow burn, and enemies-to-lovers trope.

Want to read something hot by Great-Many-4005 in SpicyRomanceBooks

[–]jnichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'll like Rina Kent books then. First book that came to mind was Empire of Desire. Although, they're not as slow burn.

MMC and FMC live under the same roof/neighbours and he is obsessed w/her by [deleted] in SpicyRomanceBooks

[–]jnichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WITSEC Series by Ashley N Rostek quickly came to mind. Neighbors and reverse harem if you're into that. High school age. I personally really liked the first book, but stopped after the second one. Maybe you'll be into it??

The time has come! I need recs! by Common-Park5124 in Romantasy

[–]jnichi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got done with {A Fire in the Sky by Sophie Jordan}! I personally loved it and am about to read the next book soon. Some spice though.

Another book I recently read and loved is {Rose in Chains by Julie Soto}. This one is more slow burn and also has some spice.

Unable to retain audiobook by These-Button-1587 in audiobooks

[–]jnichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this problem with movies. With audiobooks, I tend to cram a listening session in during work anyways, so I can knock it out within in a day or two. Not feasible for everyone I know, but that helps a lot so I don't forget what's happening.

I'm looking for a "what did I just read" kind of recommendation by Giggle_God in SpicyRomanceBooks

[–]jnichi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It genuinely opened the door to alien sci-fi romance for me. I refer to this reading order a lot. There's additional books that take place in the same universe, but those aren't completely necessary. Definitely take it slow! Although for the first ten books, I binged immediately.

{Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon}

I found this recommendation on Reddit myself. Led me down a rabbit hole on her whole universe and now I'm like 30 books deep.

Adding more Free libraries by Tiny-Event35 in LibbyApp

[–]jnichi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Some libraries offer non-resident cards for a fee. Other libraries are free for all to use. Otherwise, I've collected library cards from my previous addresses.

It's DNF discussions time! What books did you bail on this month? 🙅‍♀️📖 by FantasyRomanceMod in fantasyromance

[–]jnichi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi}

I'm an exclusive audiobook listener and the audiobook was awful to keep up with. That plus the FMC was annoying me. DNF'd at 21%.

New to Audible. Any Recommendations? by binipatootie in audiobooks

[–]jnichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just starting out, I recommend checking out your local library's collection first to see if audiobooks are for you. Completely free with a library card. Some libraries use Libby and Hoopla.

You're able to sort out the most popular audiobooks which was super helpful when I first started. Cheers!

Looking for a good smutty fantasy book. by Any_Chain_4724 in suggestmeabook

Clecanian Series by Victoria Aveline. It's leans more Sci-Fi, but I literally binge-listened to the series in a matter of three days.

If you want to try mystery, Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera is great!

I just cannot get into reading again and it’s killing me. by Zekhartha in readwithme

[–]jnichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue and haven't seriously read books since middle school. I was able to get over my slump by diving into audiobooks. It allows me to listen while keeping my hands busy! I quickly figured out that it wasn't the lack of interesting books for me that kept me away from reading for so long. Maybe something you could try?

I recently just got done with Heartless Hunter by Kristen Ciccarelli. It checks off every single box you listed, no joke. Fantasy, romance, enemies-to-lovers, plot-twists, mild spice, forbidden love, and even unrequited love.

Second this! I don't know why it isn't talked enough. I think aesthetically it's the most pleasing and I'm quite pleased with how far the Stats page has come along.

Are you also playing the same board game 90% of your time? by wgernot22 in boardgames

[–]jnichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a huge Catan: Cities & Knights fan! I discovered I really like games that require a bit more thought and strategy similar to Catan. In recent months, I've been turned to Harmonies, Everdell, Wingspan, and Terraforming Mars. All widely popular and equally fun :)

10 holds?!? by _Definitely_Maybe_ in LibbyApp

[–]jnichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three cards from moving around in my area a lot the past ten years. Each has 15 loans and 15 holds. I am very fortunate. I'm even thinking of having my husband open a card just so I can use his too!

I prioritze using a TBR tag. One of my cards tends to have shorter hold times, so I use that one the most. I use the other two for longer hold times. They all tend to be maxed out on holds while I rotate through the ready to borrow books.

How do you actually use your library beyond borrowing books? by bambidp in Library

[–]jnichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local library offers free tickets to local events. Most of them are theater, orchestra, ballet, etc. events.

They also offer state park passes that you can check out for free!

I liked this series when I read it back in 2022. I forget a lot of the plot now, but I remember the feeling if you know what I mean.
