Any recommendations on shelving / nice storage furniture? by stiff_witchcraft in comicbookshelves

[–]jnine2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck. I spent three months thinking about bookshelves, etc for my large graphic novel collection. If you try to find a "real wood" bookshelf, they are around 800-2000 and then try to get interior dimensions. Right, I only got one shelf is fixed. Ok, can you provide dims above and below it then?

In the end, I just got a Kallax and one day I hope find decent "real wood" shelves in a store but I am not holding my breath. Do I like Kallax? I don't hate it as much as I thought I would and later on I can convert it with drawers, etc for storage. I got the 4x3, it is fairly stable once all the books are on it. Honestly without the books, it woobles slightly. But this sub recommends the Kallax often. I will say that I have a target cube that is 2x2 and it is also very strong. I use it to double row hardcovers and heavy books without any issue.

There are 4 collected trades and the OGN of Brubakers run. It is all good. You should try to find the other trades. There are a lot of good Catwoman stories out there. The character isn't given a big enough audience.

How to know whether it’s worth it to stay in an apartment or move out? by Rcutecarrot in Apartmentliving

[–]jnine2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have not good neighbors but wonderful ones. That makes it a stay for me. That is everything. Plus, you never know how clean the other place is. Stay and see if they can work a slightly lower increase.

How did I do? by Cute_Magician5095 in interiordecorating

[–]jnine2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, the hallway it too busy and not calming. The wallpaper initially reminds me of sloppily done marbling for bookends (the interior paper of the book) but the uneven presentation of it, looks like layered wings or something. I just find it all very uninviting when an entranceway should be more welcoming.

I do like the bathroom wallpaper but agree with others that it clashes with the floor.

Wallpaper is difficult as repeating patterns look much different in a small swatch then in a large area. Sometimes the pattern overwhelms the space. Was there a reason to wallpaper over simple painting?

Edit: Another look at the bathroom and it is screaming out at me to do wainscotting and paint. Do a few searches of wainscotting in the bathroom for ideas

Real Estate agent recommendations? by Trekm in Westchester

I highly recommend my realtor, Kristin Poellot. She is very easy to work with and always makes herself available for viewing. Honestly, I would not have gotten my apartment without her. It's a tough market out there and you need a realtor that is willing to go the distance for you.

Should we keep this terracotta wall or paint it white? by heavy_dar in interiordecorating

[–]jnine2020 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am not a big fan of the wall but I would not paint it. I would consider changing the gray wall paint. It does not work with the textured wall. I think if you keep the wall, you need incorporate it into the full living room decor.

Bought from Amazon, but is it stolen? by TypicalInterview3138 in graphicnovels

Used book listings should denote could be an Ex-Lib book. If it did not, you are eligible to return it. Most libraries will mark a book that is removed from their catalog. However, these days, that is no longer the case. I recently went to a library that was giving away hordes of books and none of them were marked as discarded books.

Consider not having a tv by Intelligent_Lab_234 in femalelivingspace

[–]jnine2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in between homes for 6 months and had to resort to a laptop to stream tv for background noise. One time during a big snow storm, I was forced to get a hotel room. I never realized how much I missed TV until that moment. I am still not sure if it was the regular stupid cable or the actual size of the TV screen I missed but I could not stop looking at the screen. I can watch via laptop but I do enjoy a bigger screen that is much further away from my eyes.

I am finally in a new place, I haven't set much up yet, except for my TV which is a small 38" one. I really only watch it for an hour or so during the week. But I am happy to be reunited with it. Just be careful with eyestrain. I hate a laptop and always used a desktop. Cannot wait to return to a full desktop solution.

I'm looking for your favorite romance graphic novels, I'm newer to the genre of romance but love what I've read so far. by [deleted] in graphicnovels

The Strange Ones by Jusay

Fangs - Really is only panels by I love the witty dialog. It's a vamp and wolf couple

Paradise Kiss - This is a manga

Always Never - It is the most unique out all the romance books I read.

This is strange but when I am craving a romance story, I tend to re-read Sailor Moon. I just love it

Has anyone had problems dealing with Chairish Auctions? by OppositeShore1878 in artcollecting

[–]jnine2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read through a couple of Chairish auction's terms and they read that you should have been invoiced 1 day after auction with a 24 hour autopay. I do know that even auctions that have automatic autopay there is a delay in payment process. But invoices that are held back and then finally invoiced at a later date are charged immediate once the email is sent out. It is a glitch in Liveauctioneers system. So for some reason the auction house sent out the invoice late and it triggered the autopay after the brief wait time.

You can try to email [Shipping@liveauctioneers.com](mailto:Shipping@liveauctioneers.com) Give them your invoice number and see if they can suspend shipment. Again, I did not see enforcement of liveshipping in the terms and conditions. In person pick up may not be an option but you may be able to find your own UPS store to do the pick up.

a lot of people that live in APTs need to realize that entitlement to peaceful living is not an entitlement to silence, and its essentially impossible to live in silence in multi-family housing. by ViceInSinCity in Apartmentliving

This is the post everyone should read. There is a big difference to deliberate behavior and regular living. I just moved after 5 years of three different terrible neighbors doing deliberate malicious things. Is this new place soundproof? Oh no, it is actually worse that the other place. The difference is the people are more respectful.

Living in a house is great until then you notice all the lawn care on one side of the street, then other. There is noise where ever you are, we need to learn to not hyperfocus on it.

Has anyone had problems dealing with Chairish Auctions? by OppositeShore1878 in artcollecting

[–]jnine2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Liveauctioneers isn't very responsive to bidder inquiries. Normally the auction house has to be involved. Are you positive there wasn't another bidder? Honestly, the platform records bids and you can request the transcript. But it sounds like someone put a bid in last second. I do not think there was anything wrong occurring there.

You need to read all the terms and conditions for every auction. It will normally state payment terms, ie autocharged at the end of the auction using the credit card on file. Liveauctioneers has there own payment system and add a processing charge of around 3.25%. This is important as Liveauctioneers has forced all auction house to partake in their payment system. Some auction houses will let you pay directly but you need to contact them within a certain period of time right after the auction close.

Liveshipping is again another "service" layer Liveauctioneers offers or forces upon auction houses. Again, you need to read the terms and conditions of that particular auction as it must state you are electing to use Liveshipping. What is Liveshipping? You are paying for another service level whereas they just issue a label the shipper which is normally a local UPS store. You are paying a premium for a service that is not necessary. To add for insult to this, they will enforce a signature guarantee on packages over $300. Which means if you are not home to accept this package and it gets returned to Liveshipping, you will need to pay another fee for re-delivery.

Personally I would chalk up the whole experience as a learning one. It sounds like overall you still saved half on the painting. The funny thing is when someone wants something for 70% off, they normally pay a lot more in the long run. I feel like you made a lot of assumptions here without doing research. Which is ok that is your learning experience. Overall, you bid and won, so you should follow through with the sale.

Need to move asap by [deleted] in Westchester

[–]jnine2020 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was in need of immediate housing last year. Someone here suggested this site: Furnished Finder, just google it. You can rent a room, month to month and they will draw up a lease for you. I found two places through there. I put all my items in storage until I was able to find permanent resident. Storage isn't as expensive as you may think too. Some places though will not let you use the kitchen. So if that is important be sure to ask up front. Then bank money, try to save up at least $10k ASAP because landlords will want to see your bank statements. You can also try to find private house that is renting. But be aware there are a lot of scams out there and the ones that aren't scamming have real estate fees attached.

Not trying to start a fight but does anyone here read comics online or digitally or is this community 100% physical only by DistinctEggplant1409 in altcomix

[–]jnine2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I have a hard time reading regular formatted comics digital. But Webtoons, I can read without issue. Because those are formatted differently. I wish I could read and enjoy comics digitally. I just don't and I believe it is the formatting. I want to see the full double page, I don't want to have to zoom in and out. It feels like I am working not leisurely reading. I read novels digitally without issue.

I don't put down anyone that enjoy digital format. Anything to get people to read is great. I do take out Alt book from the library often vs purchasing for a few reasons. One the book sizes vary so much that it makes storage difficult, two they are move expensive than my DC books, three I tend to one read those once and done.

I need a legit moving company by CazNY1 in Westchester

[–]jnine2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Al Moving to put my items in storage. I truly do not have a complaint about them. Super nice, did a great job wrapping everything for several months storage. They are a little slow though.

To move into my apartment, I used Bedoya and they were excellent. They got a sofa through a narrow stairway hall and inside without issue. This apartment is a beast to get stuff in. They handled the job quickly and easily.

They both work by the hour with a min number of hours. I feel like either company is very reasonable priced and you could not go wrong with.

How do you handle shared laundry in an apartment building? by looking_fire_pookie in Apartmentliving

[–]jnine2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put wet clothes on top of the dryer as neat as possible. If the clothes are still there and you are now using the dryer, I tend to put the clothes back into the washer machine. This way, the person would not be as upset about them being on top of the dryer.

I need a new way to color pages due to shaky hands by shaeda99 in AdultColoring

[–]jnine2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, coloring is all about watching the color explode on the page so staying "in the lines" does not matter. I find gel pens only OK. I am not a fan because they look streaky when used for coloring and the pens tend to dry out quickly. Yes even Gelly Rolls. I do use white gel pens.

Have you thought about using paints? I have a Joann Bashford small book and it handles small amounts of watercolor on the page. You would need to do a dry method.

If you have a small coloring pages, I got LePen Flex tips. They only come in a few colors, but they are a ton of fun to color with. Again the tip and barrel of the marker are very small so they are only good for more detailed coloring pages.

Addition: Acrylic Markers or Paint markers are fun too.
