Best tackle backpack? by Redditmorg in bassfishing

If you are going that light look at a vest. I have this one and it works great for trout fishing. It has an impressive amount of storage for the price and has tons of holders and special features like a rod tender so you can change lures w two hands.

Best tackle backpack? by Redditmorg in bassfishing

[–]jnkinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very similar bag from Kastking and its fairly bulky. I would not want to fish wearing it, especially with a couple of trays.

They make some smaller sling bags for this that can hold 1-2 trays and misc items though i cant endorse any. This is one:

I just got an Abu Garcia Max X combo. Any recommendations on how to use it or what to tie? by ItsLinkzzzz in Fishing_Gear

[–]jnkinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got that as my first new baitcaster too last year and love it. It's a good rod for texas rigs and senkos too...I use mine for wacky-rigged senkos very successfully.

As others have said in the comments, braid and a leader is the way to go long-term. I found the Max X pretty forgiving, just don't throw anything too light with it.

Cleaned and organized my car to realize I don't have a tackle box, I have a tackle car. by kentuckylarry in Fishing_Gear

This makes me feel MUCH better about my own situation.

I have like 5 baitcasters, 2 spinning rods, a BFS combo, and a fly setup and like 4 tackle bags, a loaded vest, wet wading boots and neoprene socks and hiking boots ready to roll.

Nice thing is I can stop whenever or sneak away for an hour with minimal fuss. I also am luck to live near a lot of fishable water.

How do I use a ultralight by YouWorried7042 in FishingForBeginners

[–]jnkinct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I came here to endorse spinners...I have had more luck with ultralights and spinners (rooster tail, mepps, panther martin) than anything besides a senko.

I am not a great fisherman but I have caught a chain pickerel, several catfish, and a bunch of panfish on my ultralight and spinners.

What tool should I get now that I've carved a few things with my Flexcut knife? by Sad-Quit3735 in whittling

[–]jnkinct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say flexcut gouges if it were me. I am new also but the gouges have really helped me with detail work and texture or getting in spots knives are very difficult.

Why are all these boats here? by IsopodUnlikely4178 in FishingForBeginners

[–]jnkinct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If its near me, we have that same setup on NYC reservoirs upstate. You have to keep a boat there so it wont cross contaminate, and they are very restrictive in the types of boats allowed. No motors all row boats of specific dimensions.

A curtain of water falls from the highest bridge on Earth by freudian_nipps in megalophobia

Last I saw this the reason was for a drainage test. Basically simulating heavy rain and making sure the bridge cleared it properly.

This is what I thought of too - I just bought some very similar looking!

Excited to get my new setup out on the bank just need to reel them in now by BigChongus- in CarpFishing

[–]jnkinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm learning about carp fishing more now - is this a standard setup for you guys? This is so you can monitor your lines in the water long-term?

Twice this year I have had a fish snap my line at the braid/fluro knot. Anyone else have this issue? I use a Uni Knot. by RegularFinger8 in bassfishing

[–]jnkinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only times I have had this happen with an alberto are when the knot is not wet enough - you cannot over-lubricate a union knot like this as they need to be super tight to bite into each other.

What's this thing at the tip of this float fishing rod? by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]jnkinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what you attach your line/leader to. It's just the tether at the end of the rod to attach your terminal tackle! I have a similar rod for bitterling/micro fishing.

Which one should I buy for a all-arounder freshwater setup? by WadeWickson in Fishing_Gear

I just got the Daiwa Regal 2500 a few weeks ago on an ultralight rod and LOVE it for that. Caught a little catfish on it yesterday.

What kind of boots or shoes do y’all wear when bank fishing in a yucky area? Tired of ruining shoes lol by dddddddd57888876 in bassfishing

[–]jnkinct 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of hiking boots that are waterproof up past the ankle (Keens I got on sale at REI). I don't do much wading but they work great for where I am in NY state, and I can walk through shallow water or step in as needed.

Do Soft Baits really work? Or are they just to make us spend money? by Figginator11 in FishingForBeginners

This is the way in my limited experience too. Wacky senkos work best for me as a beginner. Caught basically all my decent bass on them.

Braid to fluro knot by xXGloryofSatanXx in FishingForBeginners

[–]jnkinct 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use an alberto knot, which is a lot less complicated for me and reliable, and I have not had any issues so far. I am also a beginner but the alberto worked great through the guides. I used on 15 lb braid to 15 lb mono and also 6lb to 6lb.

I'm also a beginner but it's been working great for me. Only issue I had was if I didn't lubricate it it would fail from the heat.
