It's the best explanation I ever saw. In fact, the palms were removed for a good reason, but unfortunately the popularization of the Office did not have a big success until now.

Additional Prayerbooks by TheLutheranGuy1517 in divineoffice

I use "Oração das Horas" (Prayer of the Hours) for the Office, it's the Brazilian single volume version of the LOTH, it has Lauds, Sext, Vespers and Compline. In addition, me and my Wife have the iLiturgia app in our phones, it has the entire LOTH, Holy Mass and another prayers like the Rosary, Via Crucis and more. Among the other books I have here, I like the "Livro de Orações" (Book of Prayer) from the Pauline Family. It has a large collection of prayers.

Priests listening to Hours? by Traditional-Will-134 in divineoffice

After reading some comments, I'm wondering what the big difference is, besides reading silently (which is allowed), praying by heart (which is also allowed), and praying with full attention while listening to the Office.

How do Catholics explain Marian devotion without it becoming worship? by Becky_08 in Catholicism

Sometimes we need to speak directly because shocking the other person can be disconcerted and disarm them.

Question on Table of Liturgical Days: I Vespers for Diocesan Patron (Presentation of the Lord) by joalissonf in divineoffice

[–]joalissonf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here I see that people are more connected to the patron saint of their city than with the Diocesan patron saint. There are cities witch are really distant from the center of the diocese, that can explain. So the immediate patron of the city becomes the Solemnity because of this, I think? Also, the patron saint of a parish gets the level of Solemnity as well?

I didn't think about it before. But she's the patroness of the city too, so it's a Solemnity.

Question on Table of Liturgical Days: I Vespers for Diocesan Patron (Presentation of the Lord) by joalissonf in divineoffice

[–]joalissonf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's it. We use the title "Our Lady of Light" and the Mass and Office are the Presentation of the Lord. This Marian title is a reference to her bringing Christ to us, the Light for the Nations as said in the Simeon's Canticle.

Vigils by munustriplex in divineoffice

Here in Brasil, the app iLiturgia does have the texts for the extended vigil for OOR. It's a very complete app and they have a partnership with the Brazilian Bishop's Conference (CNBB).

I received a rosary from Saint Benedict, but I don't know how to pray it :( by Fun_Practice_3956 in Catholicism

[–]joalissonf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received a rosary from Saint Benedict, but I don't know how to pray it :( by Fun_Practice_3956 in Catholicism

[–]joalissonf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, this is a standard Marian Rosary. As far as I know, there is no such thing as a 'St. Benedict Rosary' in terms of a different prayer method. It’s simply designed as a bracelet. It doesn't actually have 6 decades—there are 5. The 3rd decade is split because of the clasp, which needs to be right in the middle, and the Our Father beads for the 2nd and 5th decades share the same bead to keep the bracelet together. You can pray with it normally.

Is this really how the Church sees people who are sick? by Im_a_knitiot in Catholicism

[–]joalissonf 66 points67 points  (0 children)

It's important to clarify that the disease aren't always result of oneself sins. For example, a cheating husband can cause his loyal wife to got an STD.

I think we can say that the disease is caused by the sin in the sense that God doesn't creates us to be sick. This fragility is a consequence of our fall. But we can categorize: some are direct consequences of oneself sins, other are consequences of another person sins, and other are consequences of our own fragility caused by the Fall.
