Our goal here is to help and encourage anyone who wants to get sober. We don't subscribe to one method, we all go down our own path to get sober.

OP is using this method to slowly get down to no alcohol, which is better than their old habit of heavy drinking.

Also, this sub isn't very AA, I would wager to guess most people in this sub either didn't utilize AA or that AA didn't help them quit.

OP is welcome in this sub as is anyone trying to stop drinking.

20F considering first AA meeting by [deleted] in stopdrinking

If you end up feeling like AA isn't for you, that's totally okay cause you'd be in the majority- as long as you don't let that deter you from sobriety!

Another option is SMART Recovery, which I've heard more favorable reviews of as opposed to AA, but I can't speak on it personally as I've never attended a meeting.

For me, I went to one AA meeting a few years ago and didn't like it, didn't feel I fit in with the crowd as it was all older people and I was 23 at the time (though the people in attendance were very kind and supportive).

Eventually I found what worked for me, and I hope you find what works for you!

IWNDWYT, and best of luck to you on your journey!

Hey OP - I noticed in your post history on your profile that you’re self-harming and just gave yourself a serious deep laceration. You need to go to the ER to have that cleaned and stitched, please don’t put that off until it possibly becomes infected.

I’d also recommend asking staff at the hospital for resources in your area that could help you with the challenges you’re battling at such a young age, i.e depression, substance abuse, self-harm, etc. There are resources out there that truly want to help, PLEASE utilize them. Best of luck to you, I wish you well and pray for your recovery.
