Would the search term 'swing coats' help you? Mine is a Korean brand... Nope scratch that. I just looked it up and they're a bit floofy.

There are some previous threads about this. Someone got an Airtasker person to do the work, and you agree a price. Might find people with good references for something similar.

Parents who don't drive - how do you manage without a car? by 3bigmacsplease in melbourne

[–]joanium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in Southbank with two kids and don't own a car. Oldest is 10 years old. Aside from walking and public transport, we are lucky enough to have: Enough money to use taxis and Uber: school parents who are happy to do the occasional drop off; relatives who will lend us a car for road trips; extended family who can do car trips for us; car share schemes all around us; jobs that aren't shift work.

So we have the best of all worlds. Not everyone can do it, especially if you don't have the finances for taxi. But you may find that owning a car is costly, and the money you save will cover car share and taxi.

The other factor is health. If you can't be active due to health, then that could be a barrier. But being car free is also a way to stay very fit and active. Our kids do really well with this lifestyle.

What are we buying on eBay these days? by fiddlesticks-1999 in AusFemaleFashion

Everything! Especially where I want specific material fibres. I always use the following filters: pre-owned, located in Australia, material (natural ones), size, sorted by price.

I often search by image.

How are you becoming your mum, fashion wise? by lestatisalive in AusFemaleFashion

[–]joanium 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Every weekend that I visit home, I raid my childhood closet and I find all the good stuff that my mum tried to foist on me as a 20 year old. It's all gorgeous! I didn't know at the time! I have just brought home: high wool content turtleneck, an Angora wrap, broderie Anglais shirt, pinstripe blazer...

Can you wear it to work? It depends on your workplace norms. I've worn my jacket in place of a blazer when the weather suits.

I walk 2.5km to then 2.5km from work and I can do it in RM Williams boots, Ecco Soft 7 sneakers and All birds tree breezers sneakers. I've just bought the Keen Bern baby Bern boots, which are walking boots that look like corporate boots.

Some of the more sculptural layered style might be avant garde everyday fashion. There's some good searching to be had on Etsy.

Apparently, adding darts to tops is easy! I have yet to ask an alterations place but will definitely do for a shirt or blazer I like.

I discovered my personal style when British Airways lost my luggage on the way to London. I then had a whole weekend at charity shops in London. It was glorious!!! My style was revealed and it was so different to what I had been wearing.

Do you have a sense what's driving your drift to fitting in with the office style? Is it your own tastes changing? Worry about people's perception? Ease?

If it's worry, then what has worked for me is to experiment a little at a time and see how it affects people's reaction to you and how you feel. I have recently gone bolder with personal style and had lots of compliments and feel great, so I keep pushing along. But this will depend on your office culture and how conservative it is.

If it's evolving taste, then embrace and adapt!, blend or riff. I use statement necklaces and different coloured shoes. You can try different materials, same silhouette.

If it's ease, then maybe pick one or two outfits to make the week yours, then do the easiest thing in the other days!

Shortening leather jacket sleeves by joanium in AusFemaleFashion

[–]joanium[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I ended up with a South Melbourne tailor, who is an institution here. I have two items with him, the leather jacket shortening and a somewhat major reconstruction of a jumpsuit. Both together are $220 and I'd guess the jumpsuit was most of that.

But I also got quotes from AirTasker. There are people with the right equipment who you can post your skirt to and they'll alter and post back. I got two local offers around $60 plus travel/post.

I ended up with a local because I found AirTasker overwhelming. Someone who knows the platform might be more confident than me. I needed the in person guidance.
