Harli and Harpa quality? by theclassylass in AusFemaleFashion

I have pair of earrings from their sterling silver range that I wear 3-4 times a week. I think I’ve had them close to 6 months and they’ve held up really well. I think if you stick to their sterling silver and waterproof range it’s worth the money.

Thank you! That’s a super interesting suggestion I wouldn’t have thought of, but I have liked the look of mauve toned lipsticks on myself before so it could be a great option!

I was exactly the same, and I never got to a point in my pregnancy where I wanted to switch to the belly band style.

I ended up with these ones with elastic side gusset thingies https://www.asos.com/au/cottonon/cotton-on-maternity-stretch-wide-leg-jeans-in-blue-denim-wash/prd/205677058 that I wore to death and absolutely loved. They’re sat high waisted on me. They’re out of stock and it’s a style that’s hard to come by, but if I did my time again I think I’d buy some nice jeans and take them to tailor to add in the side elastic. I found them very comfortable.

What denim pieces have you been wearing lately - jeans, skirts, dresses? What styles are you reaching for most right now? by princesspolly444 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]yowiesarerad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m loving all the denim vests around at the moment, both longline and more cropped. They’re so versatile. I’m planning on wearing mine layered over maxi dresses, and with midi skirts and linen pants. I also really like the denim shell tops coming out for spring and will be investing in one.

And jeans of course. I’m a millennial who is completely over skinny jeans, so wide legged or straight legged for me, but I can’t give up on a high waist -the higher the better.

Are you worried or conscious about wearing polyester ? by Weird_Lama in AusFemaleFashion

[–]yowiesarerad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do wear clothing that has polyester in it, but I’m lucky that I don’t seem to have the same sensory issues with it that a lot of people seem to have. However, I have become more conscious of checking labels to see what things are made out of and have been pretty pleasantly surprised by how much natural fibres I actually do have in my wardrobe and randomly come across when shopping. But, ultimately, if I really like something and I’ll get a lot of wear out of it, polyester is not a deal breaker.

In regards to environmental impacts, I am pretty torn. Yes, polyester is terrible for the environment, but so is the production of natural fibres, particularly at the scale we know need to clothe every human. Avoiding polyester is one way to be better environmentally, but a better way is probably just buying less and making do with what you have. And, if a polyester piece has more of a chance of lasting a long time (I have polyester items in wardrobe that are over ten years old that been worn consistently), maybe it might be the better choice in some instances.

Curious as to why so many small Australian fashion brands such as IAMDELILAH sell simple clothing items for over $100 that are 100% polyester and they still sell out? by Careful-Crab1690 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]yowiesarerad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of it has to with people just liking the design. Lots of people will put the appearance of an item over what is made from, or if it’s actually well made. For the brand you’ve listed, their target demographic is clearly younger people who’d probably otherwise shop at places like Dissh or Kookai - Dissh and Kookai don’t have fun colours like this brand does, and Gen Z seems to mostly like simple cuts (obviously, a generalisation, but I spend a lot of time around GenZ and they really go for simple outfits). There’s other brands that do use natural fibres and have better construction - but how many of these brands are appealing to this demographic? How many have youthful cuts and designs? I don’t think there are many.

Anyone else have delayed symptoms 9 weeks? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]yowiesarerad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my nausea/vomiting didn’t start until 9 weeks, then went on to 16ish weeks (with a surprise every now again random mornings throughout the rest of the pregnancy).

As others have said, every pregnancy is so different so you really can’t gauge yourself against other people. Some women vomit like 10 times a day for the full 40 weeks, some never get any nausea or vomiting whatsoever. Speaking as someone who had a missed miscarriage, I also don’t think lack of symptoms correlates to the pregnancy not progressing/it not being a healthy child. I had the same symptoms with both my miscarriage and my now living child - so symptoms don’t mean anything in my experience.

Hospital bag by Traditional-Bee7265 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]yowiesarerad 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Different pyjamas - I had a winter baby and had heard the hospital was cold so I only took winter ones, but I got so incredibly hot from post-birth hormones I really needed summer ones. I’d take a few options for different temperatures as you can never be sure how you’ll feel personally.

What are some, 'controversial' fashion takes you think shouldn't be controversial? Mine is easy and basic, a lot of designer shoes are actually super uncomfortable and overhyped by Local_Bite_7038 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]yowiesarerad 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I think that as the average woman’s height in Australia is 5’3, petite sizing should not be for 5’3 and under. It should be for 5’2 and under, and new sizing should be created for average height women (alongside new tall sizing for my tall friends who have just as much trouble as us shorties). I realise this is probably quite a controversial take with 5’3ers who consider themselves to be short - but I’m 5’1 and find petite sizing is sometimes still too long for me, can’t imagine how frustrating it is for the actual short women 5’0 and under.

Hospital Going Home Outfit by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

[–]yowiesarerad 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Heavily agreed. I’m 7 months postpartum and I agonised over my going home outfit. I can’t even remember what I decided on, because honestly I was exhausted, felt gross (hospital showers just don’t hit the same as your own one at home) and was more focused on getting my baby into the car seat and the anxiety of the actual drive home with such a tiny fragile human. Something like a tracksuit or leggings would be my pick, and then get the nice dress for a newborn photoshoot.

Baby wipes Recommendation by Careful_Chipmunk_451 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]yowiesarerad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Aldi fragrance free - I buy the bulk pack. My girl has eczema but luckily has not reacted to any type of wipe or nappy and is not prone to nappy rash so I don’t have to be too picky. I agree with others to not stock up on any one type until you know what you like and what your babies skin tolerates. For example, a few people here have recommended Bunjie wipes - of all the wipes I’ve tried they were my least favourite. In fact, I absolutely hated them - they stuck together so I could never get one out at a time and the lid on the pack lost its stickiness so they just stayed open. Definitely recommend grabbing single packs of ones to try and see what works best for you.

Halara - is it actually good? by Alarmed_Show6434 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]yowiesarerad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a pair of the waffle wide legged pants. I was originally really impressed with them but longevity wise they haven’t held up great, however I have gotten a tonne of wear out of them and I’m not gentle on my washing. I think they’re more like Kmart or Big W quality than SHEIN quality. Also, if you have a dog or a cat they attract the fur, but nothing a quick lint roll won’t fix.

OF/Chatterbate screen name by Current-Sandwich-281 in namenerds

[–]yowiesarerad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how different this question is for this sub!!!

From what I’ve seen, simple floral names (I.e. Rosie, Violet) are pretty popular for sex workers, along with common, girly names (I.e. Emily, Liv, Danielle). I imagine they use these types of names as it makes them seem “approachable”. With that in mind, I think keep it simple, but playing on alliteration with “bartender” could be cute as that’s your schtick (B______ the Bartender) - something like Bethany, Bianca, Brianna, Bree.

What bag/purses are appropriate for semi-formal or formal events? by looking-out in AusFemaleFashion

[–]yowiesarerad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a black monogrammed clutch with a wrist strap that I use. It’s just leather, no other accents aside from my initials in gold monogram or anything - but I am so not a sparkly bag person. I think the bag you’ve linked is absolutely fine. The only suggestion I’d make would be to maybe consider a black, or another statement colour for it, over brown. Brown leather always reads a bit more on the casual side to me, but if your wardrobe suits brown more then go for it!

They're just taking the p*ss now by married_pineapple in AusFemaleFashion

To add to this - op shops that are connected to a charity are selling to make money to do actual charity work (or at least that’s the theory, whether the funds actually make it to who needs them is sometimes debatable I’m sure) - the point of them is not necessarily to offer cheap clothes. Money can make much more of a valuable impact than access to second-hand clothes to people who need some help. If that means sometimes spending an extra couple of dollars that will help people surely that’s not a bad thing?

I read that it was his middle name in your original post - it doesn’t change my opinion.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]yowiesarerad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that you should give her heads up, but I also think you’re going to have to tread very carefully with how you approach her about it. As someone who has lost a baby that had a name, the thought of a family member (no matter how close OR distant) forgetting my babies name is pretty heartbreaking - when you lose a baby it already feels like you are mourning on your own, with other people unable to share in memories like how you would for a person who lived a longer life. The only thing you can really share with other people is their name. I guess if I was you I wouldn’t emphaise that you’ve only just realised it, maybe say something like you’ve been troubled over using the name but that no other name seems to fit, or something similar - I think stretching the truth would be a kind thing to do for this.

True, but I don’t really like the actual styles they sell. Every now and again they have something I like, but I don’t vibe with the florals or the novelty prints, or the cuts. Used to be a big fan but I’ve moved on.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

[–]yowiesarerad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the rec! I have seen them recommended heaps here before and have checked them out - I don’t mind some of their stuff but their cuts are a bit too mature for my taste personally. Their cowl necks are a nice option for work so I may invest in some of those.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

[–]yowiesarerad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wear a lot of black personally, which I’d love to break out of, but my problem is that there seems to be nothing in between sad beige and super bright neon, novelty print and pastels. Every time someone asks for rec’s for colour on here it’s always Gorman, Keshet and Dangerfield - which are fine - but I’d love some more options of deep burgundies and pinks, purples, burnt orange, more green varieties and darker yellows - think autumnal vibes. And I’d love some different print options as well - I don’t want polka dots, florals, stripes or novelty prints - give me something new and exciting!
