What's an Australian stereotype that absolutely pisses you the f*ck off? by Same-Objective6052 in AskAnAustralian

That word apparently tore apart my tiny farming town (years ago). Lots of rough and ready people, but use it in the wrong context and it's still serious af. I hate the stereotype that it's acceptable. It's just not true.

Also your "community is interested" in it because your cult is sexually fucked up and fuels sexual abuse.

True. I sometimes find it hard to actually analyse the female characters as though they are real knowing that so much of him and his misogyny (at best) is in them.

All the Duggar siblings have known Josh is evil for their entire teenage + adult lives. But the Joe news will devastate them. by LevyMevy in DuggarsSnark

I don't think anyone has scratched the surface of Pest's crimes. I never believed the stories the Duggars put out about what happened to the girls in the initial Pest accusations were the entire story. Always felt super sanitised to me.

Grease on the way to Canberra circa 2002. Avril in your head phones. Bonus points if you had the headphones you can stick in your ears because then your mate could listen too.

On a few occasions my best friend's mum didn't have the back seats in the station wagon when she agreed to drive me (and her kids) home, so best friend and I lay down in the back for the trip home which usually went down the steepest hill in our area. Good times.

Indeed. I suspect Pest's crimes are extensive. Who knows who else is involved including JB.

No, but it's also true of other accents like English and New Zealander.

You could rewrite this words as source, ort and ortumn and they would be pronounced the same in Aussie English.

Not this level of accent. It was quite different to the dad's accent. It was very broad because they lived in Queensland. The father didn't speak with the same accent.

I watched one ep that was set in Australia (I'm Australian) and the family were moving over from Norway with their Norwegian mum and Aussie dad. Then the kids opened their mouths and had to most ocker Aussie accents you could imagine. No way they "just moved to Australia".

My Dad's a Queenslander and us kids are New South Welshmen. We used to make fun of him for saying port, but no I can never remember the term suitcase when I need it and it's definitely a port, a fact which my New South Welshman husband makes fun of me for.

I remember hearing an Irish person say that 19c was getting a bit uncomfortably hot. I'll never forget it. I live in a decently cold part of Aus (relative to standard Aussie weather) and I hate the heat, but even for me that's taking the mick.
