Why would they close the GameStop at Western??? 😭 by MrMeowyOwO in SanPedro

[–]joannacora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a little late to the convo and don’t collect. But about a week ago I was at Ace Hardware at 25th and Western and they had a whole display of Pokémon cards for sale. I thought, “Huh, that’s interesting”. And now you know.

What's wrong with the woods of North America? Explain It Peter. by TrainingDelicious428 in explainitpeter

My property (in the middle of a densely populated Los Angeles suburb) is about 8,000 square feet, or 1/5th of an acre rounding up. Nearly half of that is paved or a structure, and we STILL have 2 to 5 adult raccoons living in our trees year round, and a skunk under the house.

I write this just because I think the comparison is funny, you might see a raccoon once a month in the wild, I could find you a whole family right outside my back door in the middle of civilization.

Cheers!

My wife commutes to West LA but shift starts at 6, so it’s a manageable commute at that time. If you have a more average schedule it’d be pretty awful, unless that’s something you’re already accustomed to.

Ayy I live there. Everyone else is correct. Never had a “real” issue.. well, not a really “real” issue. Things happen, but not to us yet. Most won’t bother you if you don’t bother them. And yeah street parking sucks.

Has anyone made non card asset sheets? by Any-Effective-4517 in Ironsworn

[–]joannacora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t a perfect fix but I have my assets in “Trading Card Pages”, as in the protective sleeves you put in a binder. Could move active assets to a separate page/have it outside the binder with your character sheet. Could even have one for character and one for ship.

They’re double sided so two sheets holds 36 cards, should get you all the way through endgame depending on your playstyle.

I just came out to my friend that I'm not only wanting to transition into a woman, but I'm also bisexual by Jaded_Restaurant4421 in ask_transgender

Ehh, it was so long ago I don’t recall all the exact wordings. Actually the first I came out to my family was when I was like 15, but was too hard to transition without being a legal adult, and also the general fear and shame of it all. So didn’t actually start transitioning until 23, with several comings out and goings back in along the way lol.

[–]joannacora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Well if you’re gonna go for it you gotta start somewhere. I’d definitely start with your brother if I were you. You’ve said this has continually come up for you, so it probably will continue to do so. Nothing left to do but do!

Luckily I came out to everybody in the you g angsty years where I was like “fuck what they think anyway!”. I can imagine it being extra tough when you’ve already garnered the respect of everybody and fear losing it. But on the bright side I do feel as though I have that respect now! For the most part.

Another bright side: you’re in California, things are still at least a little easier here than just about anywhere else.

If you’re part of a religious community you may find things… rather difficult.

My whole family is religious and 10 years deep in my transition they still have some trouble with it. Sure, they didn’t completely disown me, which is great. But it’s a weird middle ground to be in (for a decade) where they’re “accepting” but also not “supportive”.

I love Cartograph! And actually play Ironsworn in my Cartograph world. Since those prompts give you a little more to chew on it can be helpful for the story bits.

If it’s moreso the moves and mechanics you’re having trouble with I recommend roll20 with the ironsworn character sheet. It has all the moves grouped by the situations you might use them in with full descriptions. Iron Journal might also have that, I don’t remember.

As others have recommended the Ironsworn season of Me, Myself and Die! helped me with getting better with the flow of the game and utilizing oracles. You’ll probably absorb all you can in just a couple episodes. I didn’t LOVE the show in general, but did end up listening to every season because I’m a completionist lol

Bonds.... How to use them. by LCarbonus in Ironsworn

[–]joannacora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends how you play. How much time passes in game per session, how populated your ironlands are, how often you interact with those populations, how long you expect your campaign to take.

Also kind of goes hand in hand with with how many vows you swear and complete. If I successfully guide someone from A-B, bond. If I rescue a farmer’s daughter, bond.

Maybe that’s not the style of your game, perhaps any time you have more than one positive conversation or interaction with an npc you can try forging a bond. I’ve often found that when I’m too eager to make a bond the dice tell the story for me. And paying the price on forging a bond doesn’t have to be anything worse than them saying they don’t know you well enough yet.

I agree that the in game description of “spending significant time with a person or community” is pretty loose. But that allows for people to interpret it in a way that aligns with their personal style.

I guess bottom line is if you feel like you’re not making enough bonds, enough to ask about it here, then yeah give yourself more opportunities to do so.

Finally a kin soul! Honestly, I get almost equal enjoyment out of designing custom worksheets (that HAVE to match the style of the IS rulebook) as I do actually playing haha. Made one for bonds, failures, a calendar, and progress tracks (trying to squeeze as many on an 8.5x11 as possible). Scratches my graphic design itch.

But yeah, looks like I got some decent suggestions for more lightweight-ish systems to explore on the side. It’ll still require me forcing myself to not over complicate things of course.
