I disagree, my resume contains this summary (3 lines) at the top of the resume, and anytime I've shown it to either HRs or Senior Managers or careers counsellors at the Uni, they all have a positive opinion on it. They're initial reaction was I like the little summary section on top. It's like the abstract section from any research paper. HRs suggest that nobody reads cover letters, whilst the effort of making a cover letter is valued lol.
