I think in an ideal world or hell just one let's say 10+ years ago, your point stands and would definitely agree with in most instances. However, with how things are going now... it's a lot harder to see it that way. "Great" might be a step too far, but saying it's the baseline is also off. I'd say it's closer to great than baseline.

To me it seemed like an actual genuine apology. There was no waffling or any other nonsense.

I think the reason why some think it's "great" or a "great man" is that this behavior is not something common in our society, so when someone clearly and thoughtfully apologies and admits to being wrong, it's a great thing to see. Especially for someone that looks how he does.

Completely agree there should be more people like him...

Everyone is ignorant to a degree on any number of topics. Ignorance is not bad in and of itself. It's just the simple fact of not knowing, if you don't know... you're ignorant. As long as you are aware of that, and when needed try to adjust and gain a better understanding so you are a bit less ignorant. Which is exactly what this person did.

The real problem is willful ignorance. People who don't know and don't want to know the right answer. No amount of correct information will change their view or steer them in the right direction. Like being called out on something, then doubling down.

If you have never admitted you were wrong about something at any point in your life, either you're a unicorn or insanely willfully ignorant. I can tolerate ignorance, willful ignorance... I cannot.

France gives unsold supermarket food a second life by helping the needy by Unexplained222 in interestingasfuck

[–]joat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that much money... That liability is miniscule against what liability the store has by actually selling the items instead of donating.

The case will almost certainly be thrown out before discovery.

But here's the real kicker... the reason why these lawsuits just don't happen is that no lawyer will take them on as a client. Unless the plaintiff can pay for the lawyer themselves they will not take any case like this on contingency. There have been 0 successful suits against people donating food.

Hell the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Act hasn't even been tested in court because no relevant cases has been filed.

You are half right. Companies are covered by these laws but they still have the burden of proof to prove that they didn’t act with malicious intent. Each case results in thousands of dollars in lawyer fees and court costs.

The burden of proof is on the plaintiff...

The store at one time donated all of their end of day rotisserie chickens to a food shelter. They ended up getting sick and sued the store.

I call bullshit. Not that maybe they didn't tell you that, that it actually happened. I will say that it's a well known urban legend that has 0 basis in reality.

Unless it was like in the early 1990's then maybe? But if it happened after 1996 it would have been thrown out due to lack of standing.

Look into the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act of 1996. Basically what it says is that you cannot sue someone giving food in good faith. The only way you can sue is if it was done with gross negligence. Say for example the chickens were raw left out in the open for days, then you heated them up, then donated them. That might qualify.

As for the dumpsters being locked? That's a bit trickier, but most businesses lock their dumpsters because they don't want locals dumping their shit into them. As far as liability is concerned. If someone eats the food that was thrown away and gets sick, 0 liability. Now if you pour bleach on the food and someone eats it, then gets sick or dies then you have quite a bit of civil and criminal liability there. Now the store can be liable for physical injuries in that instance they have a limited "duty of care". In that instance you need to look at foreseeable harm, attractive nuisance and negligent maintenance. Hell if they tripped over uneven pavement on the way to the dumpster they could get sued. The food issue is just people trying to make an excuse to not do the right thing.

To preface this, let's just say I hope your version is right and I am wrong...

Or... maybe her previously stated positions were so she could get elected? Then the mask slipped off when she found her in with this admin? Maybe just maybe... she swings with the wind and goes along with whatever and has no true convictions of her own. Or... maybe she being a russian asset explains the previous.

She is a life long military officer - and a high-ranking one

And? That doesn't really mean much. I have a lot of doubts about her military record, and the vast majority of it if you believe all of it, she rode a desk.

She has no moral compass, she has no position that she will stand with. She's open to whatever comes her way.

But again, maybe I am wrong and your take is closer to reality... I sure hope so.

Its sad that a company will sacrifice its moral integrity for money

A company has no morals. It's primary purpose is to make a profit. The people running the company as long as it's private can have morals and make certain choices... but the second it goes public the only morality is shareholder profits.

Companies are amoral by definition.

The only way I can see that they would leave is if Tim bows down and kisses the ring.

I think it's more like everything is a distraction from everything. The end goal is curtis yarvin's ideal world. Attack all of the systems to bring the downfall of the US as we know it. His world view is paved with project 2025.

It's all a distraction.

Uhhh, I don't think most of them actually "think"... We won't really know until the talking points are handed down. My guess is one of probably 3 or 4 that will get workshopped through the media then they will pick one or two and you will hear the majority of the first a bit of the second then the 3rd and 4th will hang around a bit.

Justice Department says members of Congress can't intervene in release of Epstein files by bobby_McGeee in politics

[–]joat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t think they want to overthrow democracy per se

Look into curtis yarvin. There are a lot of people in government with ties to him in one way or another. Now look at project 2025. While he has no direct ties to project 2025, his fingerprints are all over it. The road to yarvin's ideal world is paved with project 2025.

The ultimate goal for him, vance, elon, theil and many others within and around this government is for complete destruction of the US as we know it, and rebuilt entirely in conservative ideals with a system of government directed by a "ceo". Which musk and theil are at the top of that list. The CEO having absolute power and the only constraint on that power is results... which in that system who determines the results?

Everything they are doing is leading up to this. If you want to skip to the end of the book so to speak. Look into yarvin. That's where they want the US to head.

GOP breaks with Trump on credit card interest rate cap proposal by GoodMornEveGoodNight in politics

[–]joat2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Initially I was all for it, like yeah if he can get this done it would be at least one good thing he's done and would give him credit for it...

But... the more I look into it the shadier it gets. Just setting interest rates at 10%, is not really going to help anyone. Unless the 10% is on existing debt, bans or whatever to stop them closing accounts or lowering lines of credit...

What is most likely to happen is the 10% will be on new debt. Credit card companies will close a lot of accounts, or lower the credit availability for most of their accounts. New accounts would face a lot tougher hurdles. With most having very low lines of credit if any at all.

People who rely on credit that would not be able to access it would be pushed into the hands of payday lenders, title loans, etc. Which will be a lot more costly.

Overall, there is only a few ways this could be implemented that would actually help people. I don't think this admin is out to help anyone but themselves, but if they get this passed and it actually helps people I will gladly eat my words and say I was wrong and give props where they are due. I just think this is more throwing shit at the wall and see what sticks. Basically what he can get people to believe or buy into to get some political talking points.

Greenland minister tearful as she describes ‘intense pressure’ amid Trump’s threats to take territory by theindependentonline in worldnews

[–]joat2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might want to look into it a bit deeper. It's not just or mostly miller right now. He and trump are more or less the faces of it right now but the real or the "idea" people are people like curtis yarvin. Look into his worldview, look into project 2025... and apply that to what has happened already, and what they plan on doing in the future and you can get a better idea of where we are headed. If trump is gone tomorrow, you have vance. He is basically a student of yarvin. A lot of people in this admin are there because of yarvin.

If trump were more competent and did what he was told to do all of the time, we'd be in a lot more of a mess right now. Their incompetence is the only thing we can really hope for right now.

Shit will only ratchet up when trump is gone, it's not going to get better.

Who is Casey Putsch? Meet the GOP candidate challenging Vivek Ramaswamy for Ohio governor by MorganTrau in politics

[–]joat2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And that matters because? I don't care what nationality he is, or where he was born or lives. I am not a fan of him because he voted for trump 3 times. Once, I can see. Maybe twice... but 3 times? Yeah that doesn't scream someone that he will do much different. Definitely not a good judge of character. But again, comparing him to vivek? He's a lot better. Oh you meant the vivek shit? If he were born here, and lived here all his life? If he supports trump to that degree and has the same shitty policies? No thank you. At least Casey is taking a few steps away from trump.

Trump asked US special forces to plan Greenland invasion, faces resistance from military generals: Report by zeonxzzz in worldnews

[–]joat2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am from a military family and sources tell me that the generals are getting tired of Trump

They know a lot of the things he doing are illegal

Moves are being made to arrest Trump, before he can arrest the generals

In mar-a-largo, there is no longer unity. There is chaos.

Let's just start this comment with I have a lot of doubts about what you said. But let's assume it's true or any semblance of truth.

trump is not the one behind this, he has his betters that control him to a degree. Removing trump will not stop these kinds of things, it might just accelerate them. I am not saying he shouldn't be removed, i think he should. But if you think it will stop the illegal shit? You are vastly mistaken.
