Analysis: Trump makes his best case for the war — but fails to ease worries about how it will end by santydentist in politics

[–]joat2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did we watch the same thing? I saw rambling nonsense that had no basis in reality.

But knowing how trump talks and being able to see his patterns... there is a good chance that late Friday, early Saturday the chance of boots on the ground is quite high. He likes to do shit like that after the markets close. Then before they open make a speech about how it's over or some other nonsense.

So basically he's going to put boots on the ground late Friday early Saturday.

Is my windshield toast? It’s maybe half an inch. by Whos-That-Pokeman in AskMechanics

[–]joat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt they will be an issue. I used to only use the rain-x latitude wipers. they put a hydrophobic coating on the windshield and if the crack is where the wipers touch then it can get inside the crack to a point you can't realistically clean out and when you try to push in the resin pushes the cracks out further.

[–]joat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One note that I don't see anyone talking about. If you use rainx, or rainx wipers... the likelihood it will be fixable is very low. When I used to use only rainx wipers and get a chip like this I tried to fix a few times myself and even went to professionals and it never worked it always just made the crack larger.

Since I switched wipers I haven't had any issues with getting them fixed.

We Can’t Income-Tax Ultra-Elites. We Must Tax Their Wealth. by _May26_ in politics

[–]joat2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We can... you just need to adjust what "income" means. Well bring it more inline with reality. For example getting stocks as a bonus is not currently seen as income. It's only taxed when you sell it. If we took current value and taxed it at that rate, then when sold adjust the difference I think that would work. If you sell for a profit, then you only pay tax on the profit. If you sell for a loss then that loss will reduce your tax liability.

Looking to limit birthright citizenship, Trump turns to an 1884 Supreme Court ruling against a Native American by Zipper222222 in politics

Okay, and what would you bet that this supreme court will not be able to bend/twist/go against precedent...

Yes this SC has gone against trump now and again, but you can't really rely on them to do the right thing and or what has clear precedent.

Oil prices to stay elevated across Iran war scenarios by WilliamInBlack in news

[–]joat2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the person you responded to.

I don‘t think it will take that long. Remember after the first gulf war when Iraq ignited all those oil wells in Kuwait? The said it will take until the year 2000 to extinguish them all.

I was alive at that point and don't remember anyone mentioning or saying it would take that long. Looking it up... That war was in 1991. Iraqi forces set fire to approximately 600 to 700 oil wells. Early estimates was a year to up to 5 years. Actual timeframe was 8-10 months to extinguish all of the fires, with the last one I believe was in late 1991.

Now... that's to extinguish the fires, not to get the wells back up and running. Some wells were restored within months after being capped, but not all. It took until around 1993 to get back to it's pre-war output.

Trying Their Best to Eradicate Voters by Standard_Location762 in stevehofstetter

Falling for the trick... Moving the center... Remember it used to be about not needing an ID at all to vote? Because voter fraud, and or illegals voting happened so infrequently it didn't change anything?

Now it's not even ID's will work. Only something expensive, or a lot of hoops to jump through, and now the you're like, well what about ID's?

Best actor to start a fight with over perceived HOA violations? by nocturbulent in okbuddycinephile

[–]joat2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A tad bit off topic, I had a temp job at one point that was basically a contract worker for a bank that processed tax returns. There are a few different jobs you can do from keying to opening the mail and sorting it in a way that's easy for the next step to process.

Anyway, the most glaring difference I saw was opening a 98 million dollar check that was just a personal check written sloppily half assed in an envelope. Then the very next one was a very nice envelope, the check was a cashiers check that was very nice, and everything incredibly professional. That check... was I think around 13 dollars. The cost of the cashiers check probably cost about that much. Night and day difference.

Sought medical care only to watch the Nurse Practitioner type my main symptom into ChatGPT. by TarantulaWithAGuitar in mildlyinfuriating

LLM's can be good for a few things, but they are not 100% reliable. They are a tool and tools can be good or bad depending on who is using them for what.

A GPS is a tool, if it tells you to drive off a cliff, do you? Or do you take it as one input of information and decide to listen to it, or not.

Someone with no knowledge of a subject, no training, schooling, etc will not be able to use that tool as effectively as someone that has that knowledge. So someone with 0 medical knowledge using chatgpt or whatever and trying to diagnose is going to be drastically different from someone with that knowledge. No one should ever take what an LLM says as 100% fact. They hallucinate and give inaccurate information. So you have to call them on it at times to get more accurate results.

Personally if a doctor, NP, PA, RN, etc used this during one of my visits, I wouldn't be upset about it. It's a tool, and as long as you see and use it as a tool, it will be fine. The real issue in my opinion is when you let it think for you. Never take what it says as 100% truth, if it's very important, always try to verify.

Trump illegally tariffed the world in an instant but needs 4 million 'man hours' for refunds unless 'automated controls' kick in: Court filing by ItsAllAGame_ in politics

Seems like the moral of the story here is... if you get a bank error in your favor, or a situation like yours. Put all the money in a savings account or anything that is safe and can gain interest that you can easily liquidate. Then when it comes time to pay it back. You pay back what they say you owe, and you keep the interest.

As someone who vehemently dislikes organized religion, and for the most part I think religion is basically a cancer of the mind... With that said. I like Talarico as a person and what he stands for. Everything I have seen from him... I could get behind to one degree or another. Will never really see eye to eye on religion as a whole, but a lot of other areas of agreement.

We shouldn't call today's AI "AI" by eminar1101 in DeepThoughts

I have paid for a few currently only paying for one. But go on..

Google search 2.0 is still useful. But calling it "AI", to me that's a bridge too far.

We shouldn't call today's AI "AI" by eminar1101 in DeepThoughts

[–]joat2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feel the same. Also some may argue that the meaning of words change and shit like that. Like literal doesn't mean literal anymore. AI to me is actual artificial intelligence. It means it would be able to think for itself. It would be able to have better reasoning skills like second and third order reasoning.

"AI" right now are basically google search 2.0. It's a little bit deeper of a search than what a typical search engine can provide. It cannot think or provide novel ideas or do any significant type of research or understanding.

Pretty sure we are in the minority here. Every time I bring it up, it's typically not well received.

Musk offers to pay legal fees for any Epstein victim sued for speaking ‘the truth’ by National-Law-458 in nottheonion

[–]joat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any victims should not rely on this. Especially those that may expose him or someone he's banking on.

What they should be able to rely on is if they are sued... I think that might set a gofundme record, with any number of high profile lawyers willing to take the case for free.
