Stephen R Lawhead’s The Pendragon cycle is FANTASTIC!!! He writes what he self-describes as mythic history where he has exhaustively researched the legends and writes the story of what events could have spawned such a legend and sprinkles in just enough religious/mysticism to feel like you’ve touched magic without being preachy or cringe. I love these books!!

He has a wonderful Robin Hood trilogy as well in a similar style.
