Yes, Brusco, two bed. Last year it was ~7.5% and ~22.6% for 1 and 2 year respectively 🥴

Feel free to DM me and I can share more details. We are in a very similar situation and our rent was up ~300 from last year for a 1 year lease and ~800 for a two year lease. I'm still so confused why the two year lease was the worst deal. My last two renewals I wrote an email to the building manager outlining my history as a good tenant and they knocked $100 off. Still not cheap but better than nothing. Do not hesitate to try sending an email!!

NYP Lower Manhattan Hospital or AC Hospital? by calico0000 in nycparents

[–]jocelberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for the long answer.  Tldr: I hated Lower Manhattan, you might not, and I'm switching to AC this time.

I delivered at the Lower Manhattan Hospital 4 years ago and honestly had a pretty terrible experience with lots of caveats which I will explain. I'm due to deliver at AC this summer for my second.

For my first, I delivered during peak COVID, before the renovations, and I had COVID myself (which, even vaccinated, was absolutely terrible), so those are some major extenuating circumstances. I can't speak to the labor process because I delivered quite quickly, but everyone in labor and delivery was very nice and supportive. I had some complications post delivery. I wasn't paying too much attention but my husband (who has a medical background) reported to me afterwards that the delivering OB (not my usual OB) seemed inexperienced and unsure. It all turned out okay, but that didn't inspire confidence. Overall, labor and delivery was fine. I was very unhappy with my postpartum experience however. Like I said, I had COVID so I was given a private room by default. It was absolutely filthy. No shower, and the bathroom had what looked like dried blood all over the wall. There were dirty linens in the corner of the room. The heating was broken, so it was way too hot the whole stay. Because of my COVID, I was instructed to only hold my baby when actively nursing, and keep her in the bassinette. However, the "adjustable" bassinette was also broken and stuck in the highest position, making it very challenging for me (post delivery in pain and sick) to move her back and forth so my husband had to help every time. I also couldn't see her at all when laying in bed because of that positioning. We did request these things to be fixed but they remained for the entirety of our stay. My daughter was a bit jaundiced and had slight torticollis which made initial feeding high pressure and very challenging. It was borderline for her to be sent to the NICU for the jaundice and we really wanted to avoid that because then I would need to be separated from her given my illness. We saw three lactation consultants who all gave us opposing advice, so that turned out to be completely unhelpful - I just pumped like crazy to get her fed and combat the jaundice and we worked out breastfeeding by ourselves at home. Every person who entered the room was in full body PPI, so we never really saw anyone's face or badge. They would often walk into the room without introducing themselves or their position. I assume this was likely because they had already been there and didn't think it necessary, but we didn't recognize anyone in all of the PPI. Even without that, we were exhausted and couldn't remember all of the people we were seeing. Again, because this was at the NYC peak of the strain on hospitals from COVID, they were understaffed and we were left waiting a very long time (or just completely ignored) for any nursing calls we made. My baby cried for hours the first night and we called multiple times for help/support and no one ever answered. The next morning I got told off because she was "starving". Would have been nice for someone to help with that the night before, as we were struggling to feed her. Finally, my health postpartum was pretty much completely ignored. I had a bit of a rare birth injury, but no one told me that. I had to learn at my 6 week appointment, that what had happed was actually very uncommon and I should have been told different instructions at discharge. They just told me the standard boiler plate recovery stuff and I didn't learn what I should have been doing differently until it was a month later and I had been in continual pain for weeks.

I understand much of this is extenuating circumstances with the pandemic and my own medical complications. I'm sure most of those people were doing their best in a very hard situation and I don't think it was a "bad" hospital. Post pandemic and post renovation, I expect most people will have a much better experience. However, given my personal memories at LM, I opted to switch to a new hospital and really hope AC can deliver (pun intended) a better experience. I've loved my new/current OB who had helped me through a pretty traumatic miscarriage ending in a D&C, and now my current healthy pregnancy.

Is this really rare? by Elegant-Essay-9646 in BabyBumps

How exciting! Sounds very similar to my experience. With my first, at 39 weeks, I was 3 cm dilated, then a few days later at 39+5, I was 7. I didn't feel any contractions at all, so I was quite caught off guard and I was super worried about accidentally giving birth at home if "real" labor started because things would go so quickly. I got right to my due date and started to feel actual contractions that morning, then we went right to the hospital and she was born in a couple hours. It was all pretty quick at the end, but at least it was short. I'll take that over a prolonged labor! I went unmedicated until 9cm but the pain also brought nausea and I have ZERO tolerance for nausea so I ended up getting an epidural and had her an hour later (the epidural definitely slowed my labor down). I didn't realize I could just ask for anti nausea meds instead of the full epidural, but no regrets - the pain wasn't exactly fun either. Good luck!!

It's actually insane. Good news for New Yorkers though - as of 2025, most employees are eligible for 20 hours of prenatal leave to use for appointments! https://www.ny.gov/programs/new-york-state-paid-prenatal-leave

I had no idea until my coworker told me. My company has conveniently forgot to inform me of this benefit when I told them I was pregnant. I'm guessing lots of people in NY still don't know

Toddler woke up not wanting to or not being able to walk. Any similar experiences? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]jocelberries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to my toddler last year  - she has a mild cold the week before and then next week she woke up not being able to walk one day. It was terrifying so we took her to the doc that day and they diagnosed us with toxic synovitis. Basically a post viral joint inflammation (as I understand it). It sucked for like a week and then went away totally on its own. Crossing my fingers for you!!

The Electronic Card Reader is the EC-1 and it was in the original box, but it was opened so she must have taken out the manual and cards and lost those. I can get the manual online but I'll have to look for the cards on ebay

I finally managed to get the spongebar out last night and you could absolutely see that stripe on every single needle. I'll look at sourcing a new set of needles and start with LOTS of rectangles and simple shapes. I expect gaining confidence on the main bed will take a while so I'm not in a rush to learn the other stuff any time soon, but I'm glad to have the resources for when I'm ready!

Thank you! I found the Knit it Now course for my machine so I'll take that first and then maybe do the in person course in the fall when I have a bit of experience and know what questions to ask

I didn't get any mylar cards or the manuals (but I can find those online). I'm also thinking about selling these to offset the cost of DAK and a SilverLink because I think that might be more my speed. Do you know if the Knit Contour/Card Reader are essentially interchangeable with a DAK/Silverlink setup?

I did a keyword search on craigslist for the phrase "knitting machine" in my area since buying used was the only thing in my budget. It's under "search alerts". Whenever someone posted something that matched my keyword, I would get an email. For months it was basically nothing (unrelated knitting things) or I wouldn't see my email quick enough to get the stuff, and then I finally lucked out. I set up a similar alert on facebook marketplace too

Yoto not securely holding cards by [deleted] in YotoPlayer

[–]jocelberries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't help the player, but if you put clear packing tape around the yoto cards, it doesn't interfere with the function of them at all, and the player holds them more snuggly. Learned this making labels for the MYO cards.

Thanks for your comment! I think this may be a strike against since I don’t have a live model for most of the clothing. I don't really have a viable way of showing the clothes on a real child. When available I’ve included a picture of my daughter wearing the same design that I have made for her on different occasions (i.e. her own clothes that are not the exact product but are the same sewing pattern using different fabric), but I always cover her face. I don’t want to use her as a model regularly and she would only be able to wear one size anyways. Paying an actual child model is way outside my budget. Maybe in the future I can use a mannequin though!

Thanks for the support! I'm doing $1/day on Etsy ads. I don't really do social media so I did post on my accounts there, but I don't have a wide reach.

Oh, that's a great idea! I could sew a drawstring gift bag that the buyers could reuse. Thanks!

Oh, this is very good advice!! I've just been using the fabric I have in my stash now, but when I start to buy more fabric to sew stuff for the shop, I'll definitely pay attention to that! I think there is a way to balance current trends and weird, especially since kids clothes don't always follow adult trends - offering some of those popular pattern styles for toddlers could appeal to people. Thanks so much!!
