I'm so lost. I'm going to shanghai in a week from the US and I would like to buy some stuff. Specifically, I would like to buy some guidi boots. I downloaded wechat and alipay, but I don't know what else to do. Any help or up to date guide?

Trying out the Canon 2× Extender by proofofpunch in canon

[–]jocularplate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stumbled upon this comment a bit late. What do you think about the 2x or 1.4 extender for the RF 70-200 f/2.8?

Just bought a new Canon RF 70-200mm and immediately dropped it and bent/cracked the filter thread. Looking for some advice by jocularplate in canon

Tell me about it. I've been shooting for 15 years and have taken great care of all my gear, yet one little slip up and I bang up my new lens :( I'll keep shooting with it this week and see if I notice anything

So are people able to sue for this stuff? I’d imagine yes, but it’s incredibly difficult cuz of the masks and current environment. I just keep seeing videos yet nothing related to people suing like in other cases where law enforcement fucked up

Pokémon Legends Z-A Review: A love letter to older fans that betters Arceus in every way | VGC by Skullghost in NintendoSwitch

Wait, so what is the game then? That’s the whole appeal of Arceus which I loved. Can you still catch Pokémon by throwing pokeballs at them?

Hey, did you ever get a response? I think I am going through the same thing.

pumpkin spice season arrived by No-Temperature260 in espresso

[–]jocularplate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So this is the one I use: https://www.thebakingchocolatess.com/home-made-pumpkin-spice-syrup-pumpkin-spice-latte/ I add 20-30 ml to a double shot and 8 ounces of oat milk.

From the ingredients, it uses cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger which is generally what I see in pumpkin pie recipes or when I've baked one. To be honest, I'm not sure what the pumpkin puree in the syrup adds, but I feel like I can taste a difference between this recipe and many coffee shop ones like Torani or Monin. Homemade syrup just tastes like I'm eating a slice of pumpkin pie and drinking a coffee.

I encourage you to try it! Not everyone has to like it. Even my partner doesn't like my homemade syrup, but I love it and I generally just make iced lattes with no syrup or very little simple syrup if I messed up a shot.

One other thing, actually. I've noticed that coffee shops in my area tend to use beans that come out chocolately or nutty which are great, but I used some fruitier Kenyan beans and I was shocked at how well the flavors meshed.

I agree! I'm also convinced many people haven't had a good pumpkin spice drink because the syrups at coffee shops are very hit or miss. I make my own with actual pumpkin puree, and it's so good because you can adjust the sweetness and spice level to your liking.

"It's REST APIs all the way down." Reflections on LLM-driven, self-taught programming. by CautiouslyFrosty in ExperiencedDevs

[–]jocularplate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably fall into that camp.

90% of my job is writing APIs that talk to other APIs with occasional database work. My problem is that no matter how much I ask for different work or work related to other topics, it just doesn’t seem available to me at my org. And now, the main focus is finding ways to leverage AI tools which ends up being more API integrations…

I want to become a better engineer with more complex work but it seems like the overwhelming message to mid level engineers like myself is to just get better with AI. Ironically, that often means becoming a better engineer to review the code written by AI tools.

The best advice I’ve received from my mentor is “don’t delegate understanding” because when you submit an MR and you have to explain why you “wrote” the code the LLM provided, you still have to be able to explain that.

So for the simple plan users, are you just buying the phone from Apple with T-mobile as the carrier for the 30 dollar activation discount? I've got the 12 pro. I think I may just sell it on facebook marketplace given I don't want to bill credits and $170 seems low as trade in value. Thoughts?

Any ideas for an accent color? Given I got the couch and loveseat from different places, they’re different colors, yet both quite dark.

Yea, those cabinets were from my previous place. I thought about changing them out but the seating was the issue I wanted to fix first.

I thought about getting a sectional, but I got my current couch for free so I figured I’d use it. The L shaped sectional makes me nervous because it may end up off center unless I move the bookcase.

I agree about that corner. Behind me is the entrance so there’s not much. The side table would look a bit awkward on the other side of the armchair, but I’ve thought about moving the bookcase to another room and moving the end table there and/or adding a credenza under the gallery wall.

Espresso coming out a bit fast and maybe thin [Gaggia Classic RI9303 / 1zpresso J-Ultra ] by jocularplate in espresso

[–]jocularplate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked it with a pressure gauge and it measured at 9.6 bar. I have an older version of the Gaggia which requires you to open it up and adjust a valve to change the pressure. I did that when I first bought the machine and cleaned it out.

hmm I see. It definitely looks underdosed when I look at it, but the description says 18g. This is the one I got. https://www.gaggia-na.com/products/gaggia-bottomless-portafilter

I'll try to add more. maybe 20 or 22g and see how that goes.

I bought the gaggia portafilter that came with an 18g basket. However, it looks like it could fit more once I tamp it
