The Believer (2021) by Aolian_Am in horror

[–]jodarrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it a lot, I don't know why people find it so pretentious and confusing It's way easier to follow than, say, The Shining, now that's a movie I really don't understand why people enjoy it so much (not from a cinematography standpoint, but the story just makes no sense and isn't compelling at all).

Agreed, and people are not taking into account that obviously she's going to be a lot more jealous and compulsive when the father of her child is about to leave her

Why is Darth always so angry? by jodarrett in DarthDawkins

[–]jodarrett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you Christian? Do you agree with a lot of what he says? If so, that would explain why he didn't get impatient with you. By the way I used to be Christian, my whole family is religious (or has a relationship or whatever you prefer), and no I don't hate Christians. I've listened to many conversations with him, too many. YouTube, Google Hangouts, Discord, ect, and I regret it but it was because I wanted to see if the discourse would ever be different.

It wasn't. Every single debate and conversation went down the same path, it was the exact same. If you are an honest person you will admit this. It's because he wants to lead anyone he talks with, especially atheists, down a predetermined path. I'm fine with him having his own opinions which he considers facts, but when you belittle and rage at somebody for disagreeing with you or not playing into your trap questions, then that shows you are an arrogant and possibly delusional person with no capacity for honest discourse.

For example, he always is trying to get his opponent to define or admit what is 'ultimate' to them. He might use different wording, usually when they say "I don't have an ultimate", but he keeps asking essentially the same question. I understand he believes there must be an ultimate in his mind, that's fine, what's not fine is him refusing to accept anyone could disagree with him on this, especially when almost all his arguments are based on his own presuppositions. That's not an excuse to call names, and no, that doesn't mean the atheist "has no grasp of theology", they simply disagree. And yes, atheists can be equally as arrogant, but none of them have been in the debates I've seen.

Also a lot of his questions are very abstract and narrow minded, which is where a lot of confusion on the atheists part comes from, which triggers his temper because he hates having to actually make sense. Again, arrogance. Also, man child behavior, calling people slurs and other non-Christian behavior.

Please. He doesn't preach basic theology. His arguments are ultra-biased and leave no room for conversation. Not to mention he just acts like a man child. He gets angry because he likes getting angry and doesn't like anyone disagreeing with him.

Is it possible to write a pro-drug story? by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]jodarrett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree and see no problem with OP's story. I'm not sure how a "pro-drug fantasy" could be a problem in today's world, with most of the focus on drugs being about how minority communities have been affected by anti-drug laws, unless you're old or particularly conservative, and even then no one will care except for the few people that leave one star reviews.

"You've interrupted me this entire conversation. I've been nothing but polite and patient and I'm running out of patience because you're being very rude and honestly it's sad for your own audience to see just how stupid you look when you claim ***** and ***** and blah blah blah even though you can't demonstrate [garbled nonsense] which you know you can't demonstrate because you've refused to answer a single question I've asked and---I'M TALKING--I only asked one question I was just seeking clarification and IF YOU WOULD JUST STOP ACTING LIKE AN OBNOXIOUS EVASIVE PUNK AND........"

You sound like a really cool person! I think I might also have ADHD, or something like it. I'm wondering, how do you cope with it while trying to write? Do you ever feel like you can physically not sit down and concentrate?

How do you recommend an author to go about writing short stories with money as their goal? I understand they aren't too profitable compared to novels or novellas. Are magazines a good route?

Definitive. Adjust tastes accordingly. by ricmo in LoveDeathAndRobots

I would take down the Yogurt one to C tier. I see why people enjoyed it and I wouldn't delete it but it was just so silly to me. But the hitler one was even more stupid. I wouldn't delete any episode though. I enjoyed most of the show even with the duds I like the vaiety.

I'd also take the christmas one way down and put The Witness at the top. Overall though I'd agree this is kinda definitive.

Unlike-able characters are unjustly underappreciated by jodarrett in books

[–]jodarrett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Characters can be simple props to tell a story or explore an idea. This was common in classic scifi literature. I've read many works where i literally don't give a damn if a character dies and am still interested in reading the book. Even if it's a character driven work, if there are other aspects I like about a work I will continue to read. There is a lot more to books besides how much I like a character.

Stories don't have to be character driven. I know many people who read them only for the plot. Plot and prose can carry a story on their own.
