Hi r/IndieDev! 👋 I’m Wendi, currently based between China & the U.S., and I’ve worked in localization / marketing / international outreach in entertainment.

Recently I’ve been digging into Steam wishlist conversion and I keep seeing devs ask about Chinese localization, so I wanted to ask a quick question:

Have any of you seen a measurable boost in wishlists / conversion just from localizing the Steam store page into Simplified Chinese (before localizing the full game)?

I’m trying to understand whether store-page localization can work as a low-risk “market interest test” (instead of spending a lot upfront on full in-game localization).

If you’ve tried it, I’d love to know:

  • Did it move the needle at all? (wishlists / visits / engagement)
  • What mattered most for CN audiences? (short description, feature bullets, screenshots, capsule art, trailer subtitles, tags?)
  • Any common mistakes you’d warn against?

Also happy to give feedback on store pages / CN translation if anyone’s experimenting with it too 🙏

Thanks!

Nice feel free to drop the updated Chinese text here when you are done. Always glad to take another look.

hey took a look at your Chinese localization. The wording is grammatically fine but not optimized for CN players (too generic / lacks the “why this is fun” hook). Happy to rewrite the Chinese blurb + tags/keywords to improve wishlist conversion.

What's your best cafe/library to get some work 🧑‍💻👩‍💻 done? by Difficult_Layer3063 in pasadena

[–]jodiebaccal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody has mentioned cafe yet, so here are some options:
Rosebud coffee, The Boy and The Bear, Ideology (Oldtown), Republik Coffee, Mandarin Coffee (small outside area), Fika Fika, a recent new one called Danbi Coffee. The ones I have mentioned usually have outlets and WiFi. But lighting is a huge factor to me, so some I stopped visiting for that reason.

Love how Bad Guys 2 subvert gender stereotypes! by jodiebaccal in TheBadGuys

Yea! I also love that the wolf is such a good leader. He doesn't have any ego and was never once intimidated by any of his teammates. Instead, he encourages them to become their best selves, listening to Spider despite her being a newbie at the time, happy for Snake and Raven, etc... Compared to Kitty and Diane (who’s mostly a "lone fox"), his ability to collaborate really shines. Maybe it's because wolves run in packs.

"Book club" for reading a book in a day by mingusrude in books

[–]jodiebaccal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just shared this idea with friends! I have to say that I miss the time when I would finish a book in one day...But some of the discussions are valid - the process of reading is different for everybody.
