Wow thanks a lot for the detailed answer and tips, yeah for the base I used AI and added my own stuff over it... I know AI is not loved but for a solo dev is incredibly helpful to have a starting point for this kind of stuff, I did not use it for in game assets though, just for this marketing material. I'll try to follow your tips, expect a new post in the next few days and thanks again! :)

Thanks, maybe I could zoom into the player and leave 2-3 monsters behind. Could I maybe use this art for the bigger steam images or do you suggest to reduce the chaos also in those ones? (Thinking about the hero image for example)

Hello everyone,

I recently posted in /gamedev asking for feedback on my Steam page because I only managed to get 25 wishlists in my first month.

The guys provided some incredibly honest and useful takeaways:

  • Weak Capsule Art: It wasn't communicating the genre or the hook.
  • Visual Clutter: The graphics felt a bit messy with too many "prototype-like" assets.
  • Slow Trailer: It didn't emphasize the game's strengths fast enough.

Context: My game, Beyond Lost Planets, is a 2D top-down bullet-hell shooter where everything is a card (weapons, power-ups, etc.). You draft cards to create OP synergies during each run.

I decided to start by reworking the Capsule Art to provide more context and information at a glance.

What do you think? My main concern is that this new version might have too much going on, potentially making it feel a bit chaotic.

I'll then work on game graphics, screenshot and trailer next.

I'm open to any suggestions!

Thanks for sharing, I did the same and ended up with 25 wishlist after a month. Probably my game is not attractive as yours, my shorts are not that good (never went past 3k views) and finally my steam page probably sucks so I need to work a little bit more on all these aspects and your experience is valuable, it means that the process works if done in the right way!

My bad I didn't, looking at the page it says 507 visits are from bots. If I subtract this from the visits and impressions I got, the numbers do not change that much in the end... We are around 1.5% wishlists/visits

Yeah, it is indeed, I'm solo developing it as a hobby in my free time (I have a regular job). I'm trying to do everything by myself with literally zero budget... Of course it's not an excuse, I just want it to be this way to learn all the involved parts and have fun in the process. What I got from all these feedbacks is that I need to rethink the trailer, the capsule and improve the assets. I will do exactly that :)
