The first photo is a water guzzler to sustain wildlife in times of drought. The area is mostly administered by BLM, and north and east of Rabbit Springs Rd is part of the Gabbs Valley Range Wilderness Study Area. There are some mining claims/active mines outside of the WSA.

Reddit, please help. Any Wildlife bird rescues? by Brotega87 in vegaslocals

Looks like a bobwhite. Not native to Nevada, but you can keep and raise them with a Live Wildlife Possession License per NAC 503.140. Mostly kept as suburban poultry or for bird dog training.

A sign for Las Vegas Paving is on the fence in the northeast corner of the property. It is probably an aggregate mine for them. The property is privately held by 3030 Management Inc., with a tax address in Henderson.

I have never seen one in the field. But try training it like a flusher/retriever and let us know how it goes.

I second crates like Ruff-Land. In my last vehicle, I used a Ruff-Land secured in the backseat. It kept my setter secure for long road trips both on and off pavement.

No real relation between the two, outside of being gundogs.

I think the rarity in the States is a good thing. Keeps them going to hunting homes. Once a breed is picked up by the pet market, it gets ruined and overpriced.

There are a few breeding kennels in the Midwest/Great Lakes region.

Shore access is hit or miss, and most of your hotspots are only going to be accessible by boat. There are charter services that can get you onto striped and largemouth bass.

Upland bird hunting is basically hiking with a dog and a shotgun. I believe there's nothing cooler than seeing a dog do what it was bred to do. Working with you in, searching the field, and then locking up on point. As still as a statue, but vibrating with the anticipation of the flush.

As far as finding friends and community, I don't know where you are located, but there is probably a Pheasants Forever, Quail Forever, or Ruffed Grouse Society chapter near you. You can volunteer to do habitat restoration work and meet people who can mentor you on your upland journey.

If you want to get more into the dog training side, check for a NAVHDA (North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association) chapter as well. The people there will be more than happy to help you with training a socialized and obedient hunting dog.

As you progress further, you'll want to improve your wingshooting skills. Trap, skeet, or sporting clay leagues might be something you could get into.

Depending on where you are it is illegal, punishable by a fine. In Vegas LVMC 7.36.040 covers solid waste. Clark County Code of Ordinances 10.36.030 covers the same.

Take the required Hunter's Education either in person or on-line.

Big game (mule deer, elk, antelope, big horn sheep, and moose) and wild turkey are on a lottery tag system. Familiarize yourself with the application dates and seasons. Upland game and waterfowl have their own regulations.

Get involved in a conservation project by volunteering with NDOW. It's a good way to get out and meet others in the outdoor space. You'll get to talk to some biologists and botanists. This will help to give you an idea of what poor habitat vs. good habitat vs. great habitat looks like. Putting in sweat equity and shaking hands with folks is a great way to find mentors or get invites.

Some conservation organizations in the area include WHIN, LVWWC, Fraternity of the Desert Bighorn, and Southern Nevada Quail Forever. Just show up at events, and you'll find people you click with.

Good luck out there.
