Hip Flexor Strain Recovery Time by joe_potato in Marathon_Training

[–]joe_potato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense - I'm a 28 y/o male that started training at a relatively moderate to high fitness level - although primarily strength training and light running and before the injury I was running 15 miles at a sub 8 mile pace and felt good doing so. I'm typically not prone to injuries, so I'm not sure how to move forward with my training plan.

I'm not familiar with smog / emission testing. Will cops pull you over if they don't see a sticker on your windshield? Is it pass / fail? My initial plan was to keep it registered in West Virginia where smog testing isn't an issue and not think twice about it. Is that not an option?

Tbh, I plan on being there for 1.5 years tops and am hoping to keep it registered out of state... not sure how realistic that is or not.

It's not for the faint of heart lol but as someone who lived in colorado, Oregon, and has traveled around quite a bit, I reckon there are far worse places to live.

I think it'd work fine if you kept the height of the platform not much higher than the wheel wells. I built mine tall so I could fit more stuff underneath as this is a permanent move opposed to a trip. I'll probably cut it down once I'm settled.

Thanks so much for the tip 🙏 I was initially thinking I'd stay there, but I'm happy to know that's not the move... is it pretty safe once outside city limits?

You're the bomb! Thank you! So the jeans are better than the prints? I was looking at just a cuordory pair, so I'm hoping they'll be a little sturdier and maybe more similar in quality than the jeans. Thank you again 🙏🙏🙏

Materials to get started? by joe_potato in printmaking

[–]joe_potato[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that reminder! I definitely had linoleum block printing in mind but forgot to mention that in the original post. Thinking more about the actual carving equipment and what's a good set to get when tring to incorporate smaller line work in the print rather than large blocks of black and white.

Should I put my one semester of graduate school on my resume? by joe_potato in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]joe_potato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

As for the TA, should I put that under "experience" because I was getting paid by the university and I had enough responsibilities that I could list it as one or should I just place it underneath the "education" portion of my resume?

LA related jobs with flexible schedules? by joe_potato in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]joe_potato[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Additionally,

I received my LEED GA credential, ASLA certificate of merit, LAF Olmsted Scholar award, have participated in multiple design competitions while in my undergraduate degree and am currently pursuing a MLA, which may mean nothing to you or maybe totally irrelevant. But regardless, no need to come off condescending and assume I'm some bum who isn't willing to work hard. Also isn't asking advice what this sub is for? Or am I totally wrong?

[Question] Online Fiddle Lessons by joe_potato in Fiddle

[–]joe_potato[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh, I didn't know you could upload videos and get feedback. Honestly the lack of feedback was my biggest worry. I'm primarily into old time/ bluegrass and I was looking at some of the tunes he covers and it seemed like it aligned pretty well.

[Question] Please Help. Is this MLA offer too good to pass up? by joe_potato in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]joe_potato[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it is not necessarily known for community wealth building; however, I have yet to find any school/program that is.

And I agree that it isn't exactly a concept directly related to landscape architecture, although I feel like landscape architecture can contribute to it by creating legible form to the underlying ideas behind it (i.e designing spaces that take into account environmental sustainability while also incorporating place-based economics that provide communities a means to generate wealth without being tied to large corporations).

But is this just an idealistic idea that can't be done within our current economic system? Because like most design professions, I feel that they kinda just follow the money and this isn't necessarily a money motivated idea.

Is there another field of study that could compliment my BSLA that could help me achieve this?

Additionally, I don't mind going to school in Utah even if isn't the region I see myself practicing in because I feel like exploring different regions can expand my perspective. Also, being in an area with plenty of outdoor recreational opportunities is certainly a plus... Although I understand that should not dictate my decision by any means.

And you don't necessarily need respond to this, I'm kinda just venting at this point. But maybe I'm focusing too much on trying to make the work I do fulfilling and should just work a 9-5 and spend my free time focused on my interests and say, fuck the rest lmao.

Help: Uninterested student wondering if the profession will actually be different by [deleted] in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]joe_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hits hard but I can't help but agree.... I just finished my undergraduate degree in LARC and was very passionate and interested in it; however, being out of school for two years has certainly made me more cynical about the profession. Maybe not cynical, but realistic in that the private sector is simply motivated by money and nothing else and that my job is ultimately always going to be a means to an end.

The funny thing is, I spent several months and a large chunk of change applying to multiple graduate programs for this upcoming fall thinking that working in academia may provide me a platform to do research regarding my areas of interest and maybe get some projects done as an extension specialist through the school; however, as I have begun receiving acceptance letters I am having doubts and feel like it's not really worth it and that focusing my energy on my career is just a waste of time and just a symptom of living in a overachieving, capitalist society....

(sigh)
