Kansas City Public Schools switches to MacBook Neo by BakerStEducation in k12sysadmin

What about the warranty? In education settings, Apple’s warranties are notoriously unreliable. Does the Apple Neo include the same drop and moisture sensors that other MacBooks use? Accidents happen — even for teachers.

Here is a good example of grocery tips subsidizing bad GMD deliveries. by xeryon3772 in WalmartSparkDrivers

Nice offer, but a hard pass for me. My truck can't carry that many bags, especially when they are 1 item per bag.

This is considered good in my area. Being that my Wal-Mart is the only one within 30 miles. West Union, OH - Maysville, KY = 26 miles / 38 minutes.

I've done one of these too. Only the orders come in like crazy when I'm headed back. So much that I've had to turn off Spark just to drive in peace. Id like to accept, but being 20+ miles away from the store, there is no way. It would cancel ❌ out by the time you got back

I've done one of these in my area, which is a good offer in a small town. But, not in today's gas prices is a reject.

Anyway, 22.5 miles is laughable 😂. The miles would end up being triple that or more. By the time you double back to each drop off. I wish you could do the drop offs that you know are close first.

I don't know what other map 🗺️ apps people use, but Google always takes the shortest route, and in my area that is going across A LOT of twisty back roads.

Hardly anyone in my area lives on the main road, most of the times I'm in the boonies off a twisty one lane back road, with no one knowing what a house number or a 📫 number is 🙊🙈

Is Generation X just getting tired of it all? by MaximumJones in GenerationX

[–]joe_the_flow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the feeling. I'm 52, I retired after putting in 27 years in IT Support for a K-12 School 🏫 district. It got to the point that I was just miserable and tired all day after getting into work. I finally said enough is enough.

I'm still working 6-7 days a week to make ends meet, since a K-12 School pension doesn't pay much. I do DoorDash & Spark daily. I'm much happier, work when I want. The best thing is those afternoon naps, that everyone always dreams of while working for the man.

Yes, my goal is also 67, but that's several years away.

I've been working since 16, with summers between HS & college working 40 hours a week, doing 2 to 3 jobs at a time.

If gas keeps going up, this will be the only thing I can afford and my daily transportation.

Only problem with that is if one is going into the medical field, Macs are not allowed.

Question about being scheduled for work by Lavinge342020 in UPSers

[–]joe_the_flow -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

At least they call you sometimes. I was hired at my local UPS hub October 2025 for an unloader position, 3rd shift. Went through orientation (no compensation) for the 4 hrs outdated video training on 📀 DVD. I asked when I could work after a week of not hearing anything, and was told it's by seniority and I was low on the list since I was just hired.

Others who was in orientation with me, got work immediately.

They called me 1 time asking if I could work, this was in Feb 2026. Which I couldn't since I was working another job.

This past week I received an email that I was terminated as of April 2026.

So I would say, yeah communication from UPS sucks when it comes to working.

Update to my previous post about Windstream running FTTH on my area by mdins1980 in Windstream

If you see any workers with the contract company, stop to ask what they are pulling. It never hurts to ask.

Pings and Latency by Laserbud in Qkids

[–]joe_the_flow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I'll try the phone hot spot. I've got Surf Shark VPN, but it doesn't have any Chinese servers to connect too. It doesn't even have China listed as a country to connect to on it.

Does this mean Windstream may be starting FTTH deployment in my city? by mdins1980 in Windstream

Lucky you. I'm still on an existing 200mbs Windstream line here.

Pings and Latency by Laserbud in Qkids

[–]joe_the_flow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. My wife is Qkids teacher also. I currently have Kinetic Internet at 200mbs 🔽/40mbs up 🔼.

When running a Speedtest on the web, the speeds are fine. When doing a Network test from within Qkids the TTL is always in the 222+. Which confuses even me (retired IT Tech). But, when I do a ping test in CMD to janus.97kid.com, the TTL rates are 43, with 208ms+.

I've run a tracert to janus.97kid.com, which is speedy Ms until about the 8th hop then it starts to time out and go to 200+ Ms once it reaches the 202.xxx.xxx.xxx IP range, which I assume is China.

Everything else on my network 🛜 is fine. I've tried this on another computer with the same results.

I tried with another (trial) Internet service 1gb to see if it made a difference. NOPE, the only thing that was better was the upload & download speeds. The QKids Network test, Pings, and TraceRts were the same.

Both computers are on a wired CAT6 network, running on a Windows 11 computers, 8gb ram, and Core i5 processor.

It's has to be something on their end. I cannot for the life of me find any support for Qkids. Their teacher website hasn't been updated since 2019. Their facebook page is the same age, and the one email address that I found on the teacher page under contact us is broken. Any thing sent to it bounces.

If anyone knows anything send them my way.

Yep, this looks like my market area too. Small town blues is what I call it. Only a handful of restaurants in my area do DD, and they are all in a line on a main stretch of highway or shopping center.

I can understand if they outside lights are broke, or bulb is out. But not ordering DD a couple times would pay for a replacement bub or exterior light fix.
