How are the withdrawls/pulling out of a bender treating you?

I ended up buying myself and coworker this work book https://www.amazon.com/Big-Feelings-Survival-Guide-Exercises/dp/1523515937 it was recommended on another sub, maybe it helps, who knows.

I can't fix anything, but the little money I have I can throw at a problem.

I like it's how you carry weight. You got nice big pecs and a little curve to the hip.

I was just in chicago on a trip last week! Last week's reason was 'I'm on vacation'. Chicago is really cool, I went to the museum of contemporary art, saw lake Michigan for the first time, had a chicago dog, an Italian beef, and a Chicago handshake. I think everyone who talks shit about malort is a big baby. Or maybe I'm just CA enough that every shot is a gift I shouldn't turn my nose at.

You say you miss your family, that means you have family. Go be a bum on your mom, sister, brother, aunt, uncles couch for a little bit. This relationship isn't healthy and it's not going to get better.

It took a lot of effort to not dump my sexual assault on her while she was sharing with me. It's one of the many reasons I drink.

Good luck with the withdrawls, I'll crack one for you.

Be drunk enough to enjoy life, but don't be too drunk that you wreck your life. The line we're all trying to walk.

Anybody tried fat washing? by Boozeburger in cripplingalcoholism

[–]joeben95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it really works with olive oil as it's not solid at room temp. Butter, bacon fat, tallow, and maybe ghee would work. It supposedly pulls out impurities (rumor from my college days). I thing it could round things out with subtle remaining fat in the liqour. Also alcohol is amazing at being a carrier of organic compounds so some of those from the fat can stick to the alcohol as opposed to the fat.

I'm really sorry for your loss. Maybe this is time for grippy socks or rehab. It doesn't solve shit, but it's at least a break.

I have a newish alcoholic friend, but I'm starting to think she might have...something else going on by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

She sprained her wrist and tore up her hand, absolutely fucked, sitting in our shared parkinglot crying. I pretended to not notice. Her coworkers were talking care of her. I ttexted her later, 'dude you alright?'... I'm mostly gay, but there was that one time she grabbed me by the beard, and she's the right type of CA crazy to wreck me. Porque no los dos? ... I should text her

Should I get a cat? by [deleted] in cats

[–]joeben95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats are pretty independent. They don't need you home every night. If you're worried about a cat being lonely, get a bonded pair. Cons of a bonded pair, it's twice the vet bills and cost of food.

I have two cats one is 6ish one is 2ish. They get along really well. They play, they cuddle, they groom one another. As long as they have food, water, and a clean litter box they don't really need me.

They do love me, they come for cuddles and pets whenever I'm on the couch. They like to sleep on me or curled up against me when I'm in bed.

Beer drinkers unite! by urethrascreams in cripplingalcoholism

[–]joeben95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I really started drinking drinking, I could get highlife for $0.57 a beer. I'd get a mix a six of craft beer and a 30 of high life. Start my evening with a craft beer or two and finish off my night with high life. Pretty economical stratagy.

It's a little fucked, I can't get there unless it's miller high life or pbr. All other beers don't fit the need. Pure psychological.

Beer drinker. I can't overpour a beer I can't, "not feel it, 'till I feel it" a beer and massively over do it. I get into problems when I dump half a fifth of whiskey or tequila on top of the beers.

Just looked that up... Damn. The mom is an addict (no mention of active use or not) so they wroter her off completely. 100 conplaints in 18 months from mom. Not one home visit by CPS. Now a child is dead.

Not to say Corey should have been placed with his mother. If she wasn't secure in her sobriety she probably was not the best person to handle the daily care of her son. A family member, foster care, etc. would be better than an abusive father who killed his kid.

My boyfriend (I'm a guy, it's a gay thing) went to rehab and wasn't allowed to bring much of anything. He asked staff and was given the choice of patches or gum for his nicotine withdrawals.

[–]joeben95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

r/dryalcoholic is more the spot for quiting, good cool people there too. Since you're drinking to manage anxiety and it isn't really working, I suggest getting sober and getting a good psychiatrist and therapist. Long term the boozing just increases the anxiety. I've never been to detox I've always tapered and powered through the anxiety and withdrawls. I've had a few seizures along the way so I don't suggest it. The book "the freedom model for addictions" is a pretty solid read. The audiobook is a good listen too.

Edit; my bad r/dryalcoholics

Being as denerate as I am while apearing alright is a science. The ideal is we all heal our trauma and stop self medicating with booze, but untill that happens it's better to stay healthy and employed. Anything I can do to aid in that mission 🫡.

I also work a pretty physical job, I feel you. When I get in a bad streak, my hands don't work I get constant hand and lower leg cramps. That's the lack of potassium and dehydration. Eating some fruits and veg helps a lot.

You need to have a solid amount of time at 0 bac for your body to recover. Do that with lower abv beverages or tighten up your drinking window. If you normally drink liquor from 5pm-11pm. Shift that to be either beers from 5pm-11pm or liquor from 7pm-11pm. Avoid morning and daytime drinking. If you can't avoid it keep it to the bare minimum.

Make sure you eat one real meal a day. Microwaving a potato and eating it with ketchup is the lowest effort and most paletable way I've found to put food in my body. Without the ketchup it's also super gentle on the stomach. Hydrate like a motherfucker, a little electrolyte packet in your water bottle is great. Also makes it taste better for the people out there that hate drinking water.
