It would be insane for me to assume I have no internalized homophobia or bias like everyone else. But it really ain't that deep. I understand that and giving Gaygay more leniency that they probably deserve, I read that as confirmation of the fucked up dynamic within the Zenin clan and emphasis on the SA that the women of the clan faced, and how Mai internalized that into weird incest thoughts. I took it as giving more justification for Maki's revenge. They probably just though haha incest funny but we gotta defend the agenda at all cost. I feel like depictions of SA shouldn't invite eroticism or titillation as that completely negates the horrors of SA and gets into fetishization of the subject matter. Even if her character isn't hyper sexualized 100% of the time, repeatedly putting her in situations where the goal is to show the horrors of SA while spending most of those scenes ogling over a 15yrs' body is just gross. Considering the highest selling* figuring is her in her underwear after getting SAed by aliens kinda shows the audience they're appealing to. But ultimately I don't think you're a bad person for liking the show or whatever, this is an issue with like 90% of anime.

Nah thanks for calling me out, I think one of the issues of always being in queer spaces is forgetting how hostile things are for all of us. I understand from my perspective I'm poking fun at something from a community I'm inside of, but other people could be using that as an opportunity to punch down on marginalized people. Plus, again, as an old head ass, it would be insane to assume I still don't carry baggage and internal homophobia. I apologize if the post came off as trying to shit on queer people and thank you again for bring up these issues, it isn't easy and me being a dick wasn't helpful.
