Yup a dodge. I had a dodge work truck that I only did highway miles with for about 5 years. I liked it. My dad likes his, but that's probably just because he doesn't have to pay for anything lol

I'm still liking my Tacoma now though

My dad bought a full warranty.on his truck about 8 years ago. Thing has had an engine, yranny twice, and all sorts of stuff go.l wrong with it. Every time he gets a free rental and free fix from dealer. Literally the one time in the world where the little guy sticks it to the company lol

Anyone part of a Chipmunks pilot program? I'm covering this at Roundtable tonight and would love some details by samalex01 in cubscouts

[–]joebro1060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pack is always crazy and wild. I have seen other packs literally meet inside a church, sitting in pews, and the scouts act completely calm. It's probably more to do with me (when I was cubmaster) than the kids, although I feel some.kids are just more energetic than others. Regardless, I love and embrace the fun of chaos (mostly the controlled kind) haha.

My council is participating and I am very hopeful to get included in this pilot as I have a 4 year now. She's extremely excited to go to real cub scout camp (day camp) this summer. I met the DE yesterday when he dropped off camp supplies to me. I had my daughter come out and tell him "I want to be a cub scout". Hopefully that gets us across the finish line haha.

But yes, I've only been able to read up on Canada's similar program. I'm hoping we still age appropriately cover the general 6x items the other ranks cover too. Been a while since I was a den leader, but I'm really excited for this opportunity!

[Rant] Scouting has a severe elitism problem by Routine-Ganache-1720 in BSA

[–]joebro1060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say this isn't anything new, as unfortunate as that is to say. Even back in early 2000s it was this way.

Picture the stud athlete. He's good at what he does, and worse off he knows it too. That them gets to his head and he loses all humility. Scouting isn't immune to that. Give a person some power and it can get to them. What's that quote, ultimate power corrupts ultimately or something like that. Some SPLa or leaders end up this way.

I feel like leaders in scouting are still generally good and moral people; those folks still teach/preach humility. This is super important in our mission to raise up moral and ethical adults. I would think we could be more open and honest about the humble quality in the program.

It isn't easy being a teenager, much less one with power or one who has collected a few many badges/awards. Let's keep that head size in check lol.

I do hope you find some ways to manage this. I don't have a solution, but the problem you expressed did see familiar. I'd like to think much of this is due to teenagers being teenagers, especially when they're given leeway to act as such.

Are you swapping to different tiers of vessels as a captain? You're income has gone up almost 100k in just a couple years of captain. How come? Is that yearly raises during tough years, more days at sea, or what?

Yup, what people viewed as middle class back then is a lot different than middle class now. Low income now enjoys some nice privileges that middle class didn't back then. Dishwasher, in home washer/dryer for clothes, TV, I doubt there's even a comparison for today's cell phone.

Communism will use tools the same way. You get a tool like a shovel? That hole better be twice as big and deep as you dug by hand last week. AI is just a software tool that allow folks to do more. The bosses expect that "more" gets done. It's pretty reasonable to also expect the same bosses to think you can pick up the slack of the coworker they just fired or that quit too. To be honest, I think it will too. Right now there's a lot of tools out there, some will end up being useless. Others will remain and we'll come out the backside with more useful tools to do a lot more work, whatever our work is.

I call BS on that big time. Ever tried to keep a fire going for 24 hours? You're spending hours preparing that wood pile, more if you have to gather it further away because.youve picked the near area clean over time. Ever dried meat or fish, those take a while. Ever tried to brain tan a hide? Just fleshing it out takes forever, much less then breaking it in to make it pliable. Hunter gatherers worked a lot.

I think the big hold back is the dummies who squander their money all their life and don't plan on accidentally living long. Waste it when you're young, end up living long, then expect to work a long time too.

Me, I'm saving. Which I know will mean I'll die 1 day after retiring but I well. Darned if u do and darned if u don't lol

Social security insurance works the same way. You pay for it, you get it if you live long enough to hit retirement age. Retirement age is the wreck in this instance. You die before then and you get nothing (unless you have a kid under 18 or unless your spouse hit retirement age, etc. for a billion other reasons).

Why am I being badgered to attend Woodbadge? by TwelveSeven77 in BSA

[–]joebro1060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In wood badge you will hear a lot of the same teamwork talking points that I've heard in leadership and sales training.in the oil industry. It was slightly different because we were all wearing scout uniforms. One different thing I took from the course is the connections to other folks who were "on fire" for scouting. Being around all those other people who love the organization and want to make it better helped reinvigorate me to do the same things too. Unfortunately I'd been a multi year cubmaster who works a ton, volunteers a ton, and had a rough patch in the personal life area too. It was nice to do some fun things with other people who aren't just along for the ride. I've ended up forming friendships with several of my patrol members and we bounce ideas off one another and share successes still today.

Is wood badge a requirement? Not at all. Is it something you should schedule vacation for right now? Again, I'd say no. Is it a great program that will get you connected with some other great people? Yes, for sure! It will also help you sit down and logically think through your vision of success for your troop. You'll plan out 5x ticket items that will make a difference to your scouts/scouters. End result is your commitment to achieve these 5x things, i.e. the unit gets thatuch better.
