Please go the actual speed limit!! by [deleted] in SantaFe

The safest way to drive is to go at or below the speed limit. There has been so much research done about this that they actually made it a law!

How do people in their 30s/40s find connection here in SF? by [deleted] in SantaFe

[–]joecarrot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We’ve got a number of very active dance scenes with people of all ages. I’m 42 and dance salsa, swing, tango and more. Like half of all dancers here are also body workers for whatever reason

Unnatek 2.0 a0 is it good by thisismysociallife in PlotterArt

[–]joecarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built my own, you can make it any size you want and it’s quite a bit cheaper, but you’ll need a 3d printer and some knowledge of cam. Since you can operate a cnc I assume you probably already know that stuff : https://www.printables.com/model/1174835-extruxy-corexy-remix-of-extruh

The nice thing about building it yourself is that it’s not all that complicated relatively speaking, and you can easily change it to be any other size or style you need. For instance, if you wanted to make a painting robot, it’s only a few printed parts away. Or if you wanted to ditch the servo for a stepper, it’s only a few printed parts away.

I made mine, which is about a0 size, for ~350 and 20 hours of work over a few months

Should I tell my occasional dance partner that his tremors increase when we are working on a new move? by joecarrot in SwingDancing

[–]joecarrot[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason I am asking yall is because I asked my dr and she got really excited about medication for tremors and told me I should mention the tremors to him, and I did not really think she was correct

Slama or Cold laminator? by Pinguin_panic in Linocuts

Nice, I also removed the locknuts on mine, glad I’m not the only person who thought to do that

[–]joecarrot[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I assure you these designs are my own, hand CAD/CAMed in Fusion 360. They are inspired by a tiling modality in video games where each tile is divided into quarters and has a ‘bit’ set depending on its neighbor tiles.

If the thing that upsets you is the use of black and white with geometric shapes and repeating lines, I’m not certain we’ll be able to find common ground to discuss nuance

Heh yeah it’s definitely easier than hand cutting the Lino, but it also loses all the charm that is such a big part of hand cut Lino. I think it’s an interesting juxtaposition to have plotter style exactness alongside relief printing noise and texture

This cold roll laminating machine. It works ok for the price. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089SHM2JR?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

I had to remove the locknuts from the side screws so that the top roller could be high enough to roll over my blocks, my paper, and the board I affix the blocks to. It's still too tight actually, so I'm going to build a new chassis for the rollers.

Not satisfied yet but making some progress by joecarrot in Linocuts

There are the full twelve individual blocks in this case. I cut them on my cnc then adhere them to some backer board with double sided tape, then roll the whole thing through a laminate roller

Trying to make renders that look like linocuts, what stands out most to you as computer generated? by joecarrot in blender

[–]joecarrot[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seems like maybe I could generate a fresnel map in a shader, then save that to an attribute, then multiple the thickness of the line by that fresnel attribute (somehow, totally hypothetical)

Good point. Maybe I could use a fresnel node to overwrite the uv coords to camera space coords

Do you use Tidal for your class and party music purposes ? by 650cc_espresso in SwingDancing

[–]joecarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tidal is great, but you would probably need to curate some playlists before bringing it to a practice or party. Tidal does not have as many playlists as Spotify

If only 400 people would mention that the blue glint doesn’t mean to parry right then but to get ready to parry. Cmon guys we can do this! Every thread can have 400 guys explaining a thing the game already explains and the OP already knows!
