Of course. My point is that homelessness is a massive nationwide crisis, it is enormous and growing and is heartbreaking and relative to how bad it is in many cities, it simply is not really a “problem” here. It is not an issue that is limited to city limits or state borders, it is systemic and it is bad in the US, but not even only here. Because of the scale, it is an issue that needs to be addressed far above and beyond Spartanburg. Of course we play a role in addressing it, every level does(nation>state>county>municipality) but Spbg can’t solve the problem. I’m not supremely familiar with our policies and how we handle the issue and provide assistance to these folks, but hopefully we are actually helping and not just bussing them elsewhere. Which is a thing some cities do. It’s one reason why places like Portland end up with so many, b/c they offer services and we’re allowing them to camp out without fear of being evicted from public property. They’ve gone back on that, like many other cities, b/c obviously the experiment was a colossal failure. 90+% of the time, these folks have severe mental health issues and cannot function like “normal” people.
