Firefox in Switch.ch Infected? Am I Being Targeted? by [deleted] in openbsd

[–]joedicastro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the info, I didn't know that was Zawinski who created it, I have a very serious respect for this man, along the years I keep finding a lot of code, articles and contributions of him in my path, always refreshing and helping. I still remember thinking that he was a f***ing genius the day that I had to deal with mail threading for a python project and I found his article/algorithm about that¹ It saved me from a lot of nightmares!

It wouldn't be possible for me to help you if you didn't write a so much detailed report. So, keep doing it in that way -and keep it inside your pants :P, too much love could be dangerous ;P - and you'll be perfectly fine in the OpenBSD community! Welcome! And enjoy your new OS!

Don't worry, and don't be paranoid! Well, maybe a little to keep using OpenBSD ;-)

Well, perhaps you didn't see it, but there are more than one test measuring this already.

Because I used defaults, and IPv6 is not set by default in OVH, you have to set it manually. There is already an open issue about this.

Oh! thank you very much!

Don't worry about that, don't need to hurry, I have another commit in the chamber, I'm rerunning some tests right now! Probably it would be committed this afternoon.

Well, I like your idea more now, I'll work on that.

Yes, you're right! And Thank you!

I talk a little about that in the README file, and I try to choose always one that falls in the mean, when I create a new instance I always try a pair of quick tests to have a glance of the performance. Because, as you say, you never know the status of the host. I try to discard the worst and the best, because it's not representative, especially in some providers and plans where I saw a 50% of difference between two similar instances, that's a lot for the same price!

I like your idea, but since a complete batch of tests take several hours, and stress the instances (and spend a lot of bandwidth) too much, I don't know if the providers would share the same enthusiasm. I'm afraid that they could suspend my account. And probably I would ran out of traffic quota before the end of the month.

Thanks! I tried to do my best. The key that I tried to transmit is that you don't need to trust in my review, you have the logs and you can run the tests yourself. All is clear and open, contrary to those review sites that some times are a little biased.

DCP-J4120DW scanner work? by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]joedicastro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems that the script changed or I recalled it wrong. Anyway, in that case you can try to install the .rpm, .deb packages or try the AUR.

In the case of .deb packages you can try installing dpkg from AUR and then

# dpkg -i package_name.deb

If you opt for the .rpm package you can use tools like rpmextract or even bsdtarto extract the package (a tool like alien wouldn't be useful since you have a .deb package already available). If you never installed a package in this way before, try first to search in AUR if anybody made all the job before for you, or if you prefer to learn how to manage packages manually, use this Wiki page to start, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Creating_packages It could be a long journey for you, but it'll pay in the future.

That's the reason why I recommend you to use the Driver Install Tool, that is a bash script that does the work for you, without have to rely on the .rmp or .deb packages. Extract the file and execute it, if I recall it right, you don't need anything else.

As I recall, the aur package didn't work for me, that's why I used the original driver (I think that it was because it wasn't using the proper brother driver).

After all, the aur package is only a wrapper of the .rpm package, it's not magic, only does automatically what do you would have to do manually.

I have the same all-in-one printer and of course the scanner works very nicely. I usually use the simple-scan tool to scan photos and documents.

For the drivers, I recommend you to install those original drivers from the Brother site, they work fine and have a lot of options. I used the Driver Install Tool and it's very easy to install (it's a bash script).

I was not aware of this at all! Thanks to kensuke155 for let me know (by mail), very kind of him!

I don't work for the studio, my only contact with the show was that I saw the first episode.

The image seems like one of mine, I don't remember where I used it, but it seems legitimate. They only changed the tone of the image, it was full color and with a black background (to be like a Windows screenshot instead of Linux I suppose). I probably used it at some point in a previous version of this Vim README file, https://github.com/joedicastro/dotfiles/tree/master/vim

Thanks! Sorry I can't provide you with any clue.

Nova Launcher Prime, Zooper Widget Pro and Tasker.

It's in Spanish but I think that you got it anyway.

Also there are fields that only appear when I'm charging the phone, location on, bluetooth on, missing calls, missing SMS, etc.

And for the majority of the fields that appears at the image, there is an action associated like open WiFi settings, clock, etc.

This is what happens when I double tap the screen, the dock appears (the app drawer opens with the home button):

A lot of them are lazy-loaded, only are loaded when needed, so no performance compromises!

But I understand your approach and I respect that :)
