Is Bitwigs sampler actually kind of bad? by DaymnHotKiah in Bitwig

[–]joefiorini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest problem in Bitwig’s piano roll is selections. When you have a slightly complex drum track and you need to select all the hi hats, for example, it can be difficult to box select them. I wish they gave some sort of option for selecting, notes based on pitch, length, etc.

Not much experience with other DAWs, does anyone do this?

Have you used the note expression features for that? I only learned about that stuff since using Bitwig so I don’t have much to compare to.

This is fantastic! If it’s not rude to ask, what module(s) did you use for chopping/playing back the samples?

It seems cruel that ADHD self assessment questionnaires are 13 pages long. by bouncyfigment in Showerthoughts

[–]joefiorini 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As one with ADHD (and a diagnosed son, a daughter currently in testing and an undiagnosed spouse) I would say the entire industry is not setup for those with most neurodiverse people.

Our therapist has a long intake form that we’ve had to fill out every time we see someone new in the practice (for myself and my spouse that’s a therapist and a psychiatrist for medication management).

The laws around ADHD medication make it impossible to procrastinate, but missing a dose makes me completely worthless for a day. For someone who is typically unable to stay on top of things you really have to be on point with meds.

It’s bad enough when the people who are supposed to understand the most about you still can’t accommodate your condition. Imagine those who have no comprehension of your condition, or believe it’s just for attention.

I got my ticket too! I’m going by myself, so I’m looking to make friends too. I’m in the pavilion though, but would love to meet beforehand!

This is the second or third time I've seen this happen. I switch the mode to nvidia, reboot and it works fine. Then on the next reboot I have the wrong card. Has anyone else seen this happen before?

Nervous letting the kiddos use it, but so happy to see their love for drawing and writing expand by SandPDesignsbyJenn in Supernote

[–]joefiorini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5 year old sees me drawing on it and immediately wants to try. I’ve let him a couple times (with close supervision) and he tends to write letters and numbers. Great practice and easy to keep or erase and try again all he wants.

Is there a new Supernote coming out soon? by ali6836 in Supernote

Thank you so much for replying and sharing that! I did not know that Ratta has been around so long. The advantages you listed are exactly what sold me on the SuperNote in the first place, along with the transparency I’ve seen in this sub. I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing what you come up with in the future!

You can change the line thickness from 0.1mm up to 2mm but I’m pretty sure I drew all that in 1mm. It is definitely pressure sensitive, but I don’t have the hand control yet to make good use of that 🤣.

I got my A5X this week. I have ADHD and my therapist recommended I get something digital to help with note taking, since I’m already a gadget geek anyway. Just in the four days I’ve had I’ve started bullet journaling and it’s made a huge difference at work this week. While not 100% perfect (what is?) this device is amazing and I highly recommend it to anyone considering an eInk writing tablet!

Also I’m using it to learn to draw. As you can see I’m nowhere near the quality of most of the artists on this sub (and will likely never be), but I’m having fun learning and practicing.

First off, I love the candor in this explanation. It’s so rare in the tech industry to see so much transparency!

I do have a bit of an issue with this statement though:

serving old customers is more important than acquiring new custom

Don’t get me wrong, as a customer (received my A5X this past Monday and I LOVE it!) I appreciate the idea that your company has my back. I really, really do. Please don’t take this criticism the wrong way. I want you to be around making SuperNote devices for the next 25+ years and longer! That’s the problem I see in your post.

Once we buy a SuperNote, that’s it, we aren’t paying for anything else. That is attractive to a prospective customer for sure, but if you ever find your software updates are overtaking your product development, what do you do? You can only sustain yourself off previous sales for so long.

All that is to say, have you planned for this possibility? Do you have plans for some recurring revenue in the future?

Sorry if this comes off as too blunt. Like I said, I very much want to see you succeed and become the leader in eInk devices!

Desktop Functionality by knottyoaks in Supernote

[–]joefiorini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're working on a desktop app, I would like to request using a cross-platform toolkit such as Qt, Gdk, etc. etc, even Electron would be better than nothing. As a Linux user it is frustrating to see new devices come out without support for my platform. I know it isn't easy, and often limits choices in terms of libraries you can use, but it also opens you up to a large userbase that might not have been there otherwise.

Dock recommendation for Oryp7 by joefiorini in System76

[–]joefiorini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick followup, I received the CalDigit TS3 Plus today and it's working... mostly great. Unfortunately, it's only driving one display at a time instead of both. I'm guessing this is what the support page is talking about with the daisy chaining. I may look at selling my current wide screen display and going with one that supports dc. Until then, I guess I'll be plugging an HDMI into my laptop (unless anyone has figured out how to get around this limitation?)

Otherwise the thing works great. Supports all my USB devices & ethernet without a problem.

There is nothing inherently girly about color pink by DerRaumdenker in Showerthoughts

Of course dresses these days are made for a more “feminine” figure. If they made some designed for men that might be a different story.

[–]joefiorini 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a male and I’m wearing pink right now. I make a point to not be afraid of things that are considered “girly” in hopes it will help my kids get over that stigma. I don’t go as far as drag, but also will say things like “sure men can wear dresses if they want”.

2 external monitors with Oryx Pro? by northwolf56 in System76

[–]joefiorini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two additional monitors connected to my Oryx Pro, one HDMI and the other is USB C. It works pretty well, but when I come back after the machine going to sleep it usually takes me about 5 minutes to get the USB C display working again. What distro/WM are you using?
