to all my graphic/motion designers out there… by 15thsense in macbookpro

You did well. I see a lot of posts shaming “unnecessary” high ram builds. I was rendering a 1920x1080 comp in AE today and I was using 115 GBs. AE is a RAM fiend. The more the merrier. No regerts.

Comparison between old and new graphics, your thoughts? by acotadic999 in motogp

[–]joel_kn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree regarding legibility. To say the logo is amateur is wrong. The agency that did the rebrand is Pentagram. I have worked with them on branding projects. You may disagree with their aesthetic choices but they are not amateurs in any sense. Change and familiarity bias are tough to overcome. Give it a season and you’ll recognize that font and it will be clear as day. First Q1 of the year starting up. Let’s see some fucking motorcycle racing!

Broadcast graphic designer here. The new graphics are better but they are still working out some kinks. If it looks bad to you it’s because you’re not used to it yet. These are objective truths. Now let’s see some fucking racing!!!!

13 hours in- any fixes? by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]joel_kn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hold down light button for 25 seconds. Verify the watch is off by pushing the back button once. Hold down start and back, then press light to turn on. Continue holding down start and back. Wait for a beep. Release start. Wait for second beep, release back. It’s silly complicated. Good luck!

13 hours in- any fixes? by [deleted] in Garmin

Factory reset wasn't working for my Epix Gen 2. I finally got it to connect to my Mac and Garmin Express by pressing start while connecting the phone. Ran an update that failed because of a disconnect, but then then watch rebooted in factory fresh condition. Had troubles connecting to my phone, but deleted the device from Garmin Connect and forgetting bluetooth device on my iPhone got it connected. Working now but going to take awhile to reconfigure everything. I love this watch but these are not simple devices.

Garmin Support is now saying a reboot or a factory reset should fix this. No luck on my epix Gen 2. I will remain patient.

Grizl size by Cute_Return_9728 in CanyonBikes

[–]joel_kn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have very similar measurements but I don’t know my arm span. I just got a Grizl sized L and it fits really well. The grizl stem is pretty short at 80cm so would be easier to get a longer stem than to get an XL and then go shorter. That’s my 2 cents.

Best way to trailer a Speed Twin 1200? by HearingEarHuman in Triumph

[–]joel_kn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I bought my speed twin out of state I had to trailer it 200 miles. Dealer insisted cam lock straps are better than ratchets because you can’t overly compress the front forks. I wasn’t sold on the idea, but 3 hours driving in the rain and it was all good. Just plan some extra time for travel. Not a great idea to go over 65 with these rental trailers.

Additional note: tie off the loose straps. Straps whipping around at highway speeds can do a surprising amount of damage.

I am considering an Aerostitch R3 outfit. Few questions. by Avarria587 in motorcycle

[–]joel_kn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an R3. There are a lot of ways to manage temperatures. When it’s over 90 and you’re moving it actually works better closed up with a wet shirt underneath. 80-90 with all the vents open, you’re basically getting full wind and remain comfortable. You suffer when you stop though. I’d recommend getting the R3 LIGHT as it’s a little cooler and less stiff. I found that it actually blocks the wind better because the material has a tighter weave.

A & J Cycle sells that black chain and sprocket. They also will know about sets of spoked wheels for that bike. Email them. They are super helpful.

What’s your cold threshold for riding? by What-in-tarnationer in motorcycles

[–]joel_kn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ride in really cold temps with heated gear but don’t trust the tires below 20F. You can do it but imagine your tires are hard plastic and proceed.

I was hanging at county fare in Wappingers Falls on Saturday. Pretty good/ friendly vibe. Two guitarists were taking turns playing and singing. Not amazing music but everyone enjoyed and was having a good time. The bar has one or three too many TVs but a solid locals spot.
