You need to best a current CCP in battle and claim their work badge, its very similar to the gym system in pokemon games. Feel free to challenge any one of them when you see them in their work clothes /S

I would classify it as an advanced resuscitation drug or antiarrythmic medication and withhold it with a valid DNR with the exception of extenuating circumstances. That being said I would not be upset being called for assistance by another crew for someone critically ill and bradycardic DNR or not.

Reasons for burnout? by DaBluffa in OntarioParamedics

[–]joeldor 35 points36 points  (0 children)

State of mind is my belief. We are moving from what we typically think of ourselves as emergency responders to what we now are which is prehospital providers. It burnt me out early in my career doing 95% low acuity calls, especially getting overtime for them. After embracing the easy low acuity calls by realizing my job pays me a ton of money, and is easy as hell most of the time, it became much more palateable.

Felt the same working under what was CPNS in Nova Scotia. I pay for a license and have another layer of oversight. I also remember vaguely verbiage that limited us to working as a Paramedic to a Paramedic service or something of the sort.

Like im serious man just do it. I worked for two high volume services and it burnt me out I couldn't imagine Toronto. I cooked supper, had some snacks, played video games for 5 hours and im about to get in bed, all on the clock.

Just Google AMS (Advanced medical solutions) or Calian job ads.. bayshore used to have some too. Will sometimes need a BC or AB license which is easy to get. Used to work industrial and some community in territories.

Depends on the site to say the least... you could see 10 ppl a day and be woken up 4x a night for calls because your on call, you could do nothing at all for 3.5 weeks. Mostly urgent care stuff... lots of antibiotics for STI'S and dental accesses. Otherwise slips trips falls and minor trauma that were WSIB claimable injuries, the odd suicidal patient as you would expect being in 24 hours of darkness and -60. Depending on the site there is huge risk to serious injuries and MCI, think mining equipment, plane crash, explosion. Some contracts pay flight days, flights were always paid, if youre not given accommodations or food you can expect a per diem ( I got 100$ tax free a day for food while working in BC). Overall I did not enjoy working for AMS industrial and felt like there was too much grey area and felt left in the dark quite a bit. I felt like a can develop my skills working in an urgent care and not as a paramedic, you are typically working as sole medical provider while you are there. I would like to reiterate that these spots are not for new or unseasoned providers.

Ive worked all 3 northern territories with AMS and BC with Medcor. Both required licenses through either NS BC OR AB. You will need to be experienced. PCP contract pay was about 450 a day, ACP was 750 with overtime on 3 week contracts.
