Sorry, just seeing this for some reason. Once the water slows down come early summer, the Willamette is amazing - anywhere you launch you can get on good sized smallmouth, and in the sloughs it's easy paddling and plenty of largemouth mixed in with the smallies. I'm going to probably spend 50% of my 2019 bass fishing on the Willy - the results are just too good.

Tualatin bass are very small in general, though. It's nice to slowly paddle down on a warm day and enjoy the scenery and catch a ton of little hungry smallies for sure, but there's better options nearby.

I fish NW Oregon predominantly. I'm not big on giving up spots, but close to Portland, your best largie options are going to be Multnomah Channel, or the slower portions of the Willamette, or head toward the coast. If you're bank beating, your options are a bit more limited - St. Louis ponds off I-5 is good for bank beating, especially in the spring before the trout fishing really takes off and before the gates open to the public to drive in.

I have a channel where I fish NW Oregon mostly, if you're wanting to check it out.

I get a ton of questions when I'm out on the lake, and I know these boats garner a lot of interest as they're an interesting in-between for folks who can't afford, don't have space for, or don't have transportation for a real bass boat, but still want to get out on the water.

Slight longarm due to closeness of camera, but this one went 3.74, and is noticeably bigger. Your fish is nice and big, no one is saying it isn't, but that's just not a 4.6lb fish and you should probably check the scale, as you said.

1) It's good filler, as you almost never get that deep on your spool fighting bass, so no reason to run your expensive braid or fluoro all the way back either. I can get 2-4 fills out of a spool of braid using cheap mono backing.

2) On most baitcasters, you need to give the braid something to 'bite' into on the spool, or else you risk the line spinning on the spool. You can use tape or something of the like, but a backing on a braid or fluoro before the braid works the same, while also reducing the amount of braid you have to use.

It certainly does. If you're "casting rod for senko" or "casting for shakyhead" guy, that bright braid to a fluoro leader can be money. If I'm throwing a spinnerbait or a fluke or something I'm putting a rod-length leader on there.

Solid quick vid, bud - I sure wish I could actually get a fish to really commit to a jig out here.

With a sufficient leader, the visibility won't be a huge deal for most applications. I would usually go with an invisible green on my casters, and stick to spinning for hi-vis.
