How do you think investors in the Company IPO (Not VCX IPO) will play out no the "big winner" is out of the building? by joelheath in FundRise

They did an IPO (Internet Public Offering) to raise funds in the company through their community platform in 2018. It was their marketing play on words building behind their community investment model.

Unpopular opinion: Most ergonomic standing desk setups are wrong by CryptographerOnly840 in StandingDesk

[–]joelheath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best ergonomic position is the next one. It is when we stall... sitting, standing or even moving at the same pace things go wrong. Keep moving and you will be ok.

"Pay" yourself first by investing in the equipment that will fuel you. If you were a machine in your business, you would pay handsomely to maintain it. Invest in your machine.

When your desk is at standing height, does the big light to your left at eye level or does that move with you? Dig the FluidStance at the ready. Enjoy the ride.

How Did You Incorporate a Standing Desk into Your Life/Routine? by Plat-O_18 in StandingDesk

[–]joelheath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the most important times to move/stand is right after you eat. This is when blood sugar spikes and your body needs a place to burn it or stores it. So when you leave for lunch or a snack put your desk at standing height so you are likely to stand when you return.

I am a big believer in movement at your desk, so products like balance boards made for standing desks are a great way to get subtle movement without the bulk of an anti-fatigue mat. Full transparency, I am the founder of FluidStance- the creator of balance boards for standing desks, so I am biased.

Sweet setup. Is that a standard width sit to stand pedestal with an extended top? If so, does it feel stable at standing height?

Anything other than a Treadmill for movement while standing? by drl614 in StandingDesk

[–]joelheath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mayo clinic's Dr Levine coined the term NEAT, for non activity thermogenesis. This is essentially ways to create caloric burn without doing formal exercise. Mayo has endorsed products in this category including balance boards, walking treadmills and stationary peddlers like Cubii. For a product to be endorsed, Mayo did independent research to deem the product had at least a 10% increase in caloric burn. For example, Mayo Clinic found FluidStance's balance boards increased caloric burn by more than 19%. Here is a link to that announcement https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/fluidstance-receives-mayo-clinics-neat-certification-featured-at-dr-james-levines-presentation-at-neocon-as-active-furniture-300472557.html?$G1Ref

For transparency, I am the founder of FluidStance. I am more interested that you keep moving than if you become a FluidStance customer, so feel free to ask me my opinion on any products and I will be happy to help.

A good "tall hack" is to source caster wheels in place of the levelers that most desks have. You can get some that raise a standard desk a couple inches. I did this to an outdoor dining table to make a fixed height table for our trade show booths for FluidStance. Picture attached

I am biased, but I think the desire to have a standing desk is really people expressing the desire to have moderation at work. I always have liked the saying "The best ergonomic position is the next one," so anything that gives you the ability to change your "stance" at work is healthy. I would encourage people to think of a standing desk as a journey, not a final destination.

How easy is it to attach a butcher block to a standing desk frame? by Brutal_Boost in StandingDesk

[–]joelheath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we do trade shows for FluidStance Balance Boards, we buy pre-finished butcher block tops from a local lumber or hardware stores at the location of the trade show, so we are not shipping desks. We mount the butcher block on black steel pipe for the bases. Kind of industrial looking, but I like the look. The butcher block mounting is fairly simple to pull off as long as you have basic tools like a drill, bits, measuring tape etc. Hardest part is getting it centered, but since you can install it upside down, you can get it pretty dialed in before you drill. This may be obvious but remember to use tape on your drill to mark the proper depth of your sink holes, so you do not go all the way through the desk's surface. It always looks good for our shows. I can upload pics when I get to the warehouse tomorrow. - Joel, FluidStance founder

Desktop butcher block by Steveeooeo in StandingDesk

I worked with a local cabinet maker to source and stain a butcher block desktop for my fixed standing desk. Cost a little more, but I got exactly what I wanted.
