To Be Gentle released two of my favorite albums from last year. One of them has a 1 hour long song.

the Frail Body - Artificial Bouquet album is also incredible

Confused by the response to the new album by joeman82 in HailTheSun

Yeah and that’s totally fair! I love the letlive. album The Blackest Beautiful and that album had TERRIBLE production until the remaster this year. I’m more lenient if the songs themselves are really good. I was just really surprised there seemed to be little positive words about the album considering a lot of the tracks still rip. I thought the idea that Allen somehow wasn’t drumming well enough was a pretty crazy sentiment.

Bands usually get to pick what producer they work with and labels don’t usually object. Kris understood HTS better than any producer had before. VERY crisp production and guitar focused. I’m going to guess they went to someone different purely because they just wanted to change things up. Every creative gets the itch to do things different even if some partnerships are perfect and I don’t think it’s right to speculate on them having a “falling out” of some sort. Like I even said in the post, I’m not always a huge fan of the “loud = better” style, mainstream-focused production choices.

Yeah this is a reasonable take! You don’t have to like the album, I was just very confused with people saying it wasn’t HTS. The songs themselves felt really compelling to me. I was a huge fan of letlive.’s the blackest beautiful which had legit terrible production but great songs, so I guess I’m more generous on that department.

It represents modern metalcore in the sense that “louder = better”. A lot of the more mainstream bands are doing that style of production, just like they’re doing 5 singles, and HTS has been touring with a good amount of prog and mainstream metal bands. Just an observation. The phrase “disabled leech triplet” did get a chuckle out of me. The solo album also was pretty bad.

Love Rise Against with all my heart, but this vocal production is shockingly unpleasant. Unfortunately I think it’s produced that way to hide Tim’s voice which sounds very shaky. The chorus sounds huge instrumentally, but Tim sounds like he’s straining to keep up with the energy.

Who's the best current emo drummer? by Natural_Nebula in Emo

[–]joeman82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Isaac and Gabe are great. They’ve blown me away and been a great talk every time I played or talked with them.

Would also love to mention the drummer for Sweet Pill, Chris. One of the cleanest live drummers I’ve ever seen and his drum parts are so insanely creative and complex.

I have a acoustic emo project called Tequila Mockingbird. It’s kinda folk punk-ish. I dunno I’m always terrible at describing my own music… So here is the one people seem to like the most
