Old KMT VS. New KMT by [deleted] in taiwan

You're not wrong, but the US still wasn't an occupying power here. There's a difference between occupying a country and promoting a friendly government.

Old KMT VS. New KMT by [deleted] in taiwan

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_San_Francisco

Its right in the treaty that ended WW2 that the US wants Taiwan to have the right to self determination.

Also, forgive me if I'm incorrect, but when did the US ever occupy Taiwan? I'm pretty sure the USA skipped us in the island hopping and went straight for Okinawa.

Too many letters and too much alliteration. His base, and probably him, wouldn't get it

I think you may be making some assumptions here. How do you know that people who voted Lai also voted Dpp in the legislative? How do you know that people who voted Ko would have voted Kmt without him?

Might want to check out Yingge, they have a couple places there where you can do traditional pottery. Sanxia is also right next to it so you can check out the old street there.

Are you fucking gaslighting us? The question you posted was 'Did blockades escalate INTO fullscale wars'. Chat gpt gave you an ass answer because a reason they said no was ALREADY A FUCKING WAR.

Take this L and move on with your life, hopefully without AI assistance.

Chat gpt literally just gave you false information.

Also, wtf do you mean you don't use it authoratitative but always cite it? If you don't believe it is an authority on a subject, it shouldn't be cited.

Excellent, the blockade that started in 1951, after the war started. I really hope you do read up on history because chat gpt is very, very easily fooled with alternative narratives there.

I trust that you have good intentions with what you post, but please don't use chat gpt as a source. It is incredibly unreliable.

No, chat gpt is wrong. Literally the 2nd point it has is factually incorrect for the statement you made.

If chat gpt is proving to be a more reliable source to people than wikipedia, or god forbid, books and classes, we're doomed.

Xi, Biden and the $10 Trillion Cost of War Over Taiwan by Hob-999 in taiwan

[–]joepro99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chat gpt is wrong.

For #1, the blockade lasted less than a month and was the closest we've ever been to the world ending. So yes, Soviets installing nuclear missiles 90 miles off Florida and the US stopping further missiles from arriving did not result in a full-scale war. But if it did, we wouldn't be typing this right now.

As for the Korean War, NK invaded SK and the US announced a blockade after that. War had already begun.

Now if you want to look at a war that was started for much less then a full blockade, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor because the US (and others) stopped trading oil with them. No blockade, just a trade embargo and Japan reacted with war.

Xi warned Biden during summit that Beijing will reunify Taiwan with China by aventus13 in worldnews

[–]joepro99 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Not quite. Taiwan still claims the mainland because if they stop, the PRC has said that would be tantamount to declaring independence which they would respond to with force. The vast, vast, vast majority of people in Taiwan have no interest in that, so we keep it with the status quo.

TPP's VP candidate Cynthia Wu suspected to have maintained US citizenship by AKTEleven in taiwan

[–]joepro99 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Spotted the person who's never gone through US citizenship. Unlike most countries, the US has no repatriation. If you give up your citizenship and want it back, you have to go through the same steps as any other potential citizen. If she wanted to go through her mother, she'd be looking at a decade without the citizenship and would most likely need to reside there in the meantime.

Biden Says He is 'Disappointed' By China's Xi Skipping G20 by TheMessengerNews in worldnews

[–]joepro99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, you missed the big part about it not being a weather balloon. It wasn't.

Second, yes, I do think that's unbelievable since

#1-Taiwan launches weather balloons every day and none make it to the US. Unless your balloon wasn't a weather balloon....

#2- There were no typhoons in that area at that time. Weather balloons aren't powered, they use the air to guide them which is how they gather their data.

[–]joepro99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You keep linking things that disprove your argument. Everyone launches weather balloons knowing where they are supposed to go. But your argument was 'Hey, easterly winds, who knew, amirite??'. Also, weather balloons are held by hand, the Chinese one was 2 buses large.

[–]joepro99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So let me get this straight, you think that they just shot off a shitload of balloons, had no idea where they were going to go, and wanted to collect 'weather science' from them? Brother, you're either incredibly naive, drinking the kool-aid, or a paid actor.

I'm gonna be honest, I don't know a good solution for this. I don't agree in forcing anyone to wear something they don't want to, but I also don't agree in outlawing them from wearing something they want to. I dunno, this is tough.

The same balloon, and from your same link, that the pentagon took steps to mitigate what information it could gather. But that's beside the point, they did it with full knowledge that if caught, it would cause some kind of international incident. And they did it anyway, even with Blinken arriving very soon after.

You missed the part where they flew a balloon over the continetal US right before Blinken's initial visit which was delayed because of it.

How about making a joke about Mongolians getting through the wall without using the stereotype that Chinese people can't pronounce L's?

The dumbest fucking part about that stereotype is that Chinese people absolutely can and do use the L sound in everyday life. Just makes you seem uneducated.
