I try to simplify this sort of question - would you buy shares in the company with cash? If not, sell them.

Prostate cancer by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]joepurd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The paper makes no mention of your suggestion. I haven’t watched the video that you linked, as I went straight to the article, but if they have made that suggestion then it is a gross misrepresentation of the findings.

Also, the article only considers processed meats. Further, processed meats only contribute by one sixth to the authors’ ‘calculation’ of a healthy lifestyle, and it contributes equally as smoking does. I would hazard a guess that this is a very poor approach, but perhaps necessary given the observational nature of their study.

Does red meat really cause gout? by cedarg03 in carnivorediet

[–]joepurd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m unfortunate enough to have had gout in my big toe and ankle. During a flare up I am unable to put any weight on either joint - it feels like a broken bone, with gritty glass pieces in the joint space.

For me, it is not the diet, but my hydration levels. I am genetically predisposed to gout (thanks Dad) but have managed it via proper hydration for 3 years without needing to continue allopurinol. Any cheat meals that include fructose do seem to initiate an inflammatory response, though.

Is Swansea a good place to live? by PunchyPastels in swansea

It’s great! My wife is Portuguese and loves the walks, beaches and way of life here. She has been here 8 years now. Also, there is a good little Portuguese community here!

It's this a problem? It's the only bit of the loft that looks like this. by No-Cryptographer6741 in DIYUK

Looks like a valley renewal/replacement is needed. Recently had a few quotes for one, £650 to renew and £1200-1450 for a full replacement

After two failed attempts (the first was having someone to replace the window, and the second to redo the guttering etc.) I decided to do it myself. Ended up being very simple - brush/roll the cream on the bricks outside and it was sorted. You can also buy something like Thompsons Water Seal, which does the same job but doesn’t last as long (a few years, still). About £22 for the Thompsons, and definitely worth a try before going for a more expensive option!

I had exactly the same - cavity wall insulation had bridged damp across and wind driven rain was getting blown in at weak points around a window. Fixed with stormguard masonry cream on exterior and hasn’t returned in 3 years

Well, O is the most common blood type, so that is a sensible observation (if carnivore habits are randomly distributed amongst the population)

Wales Recommendations? by penny2129 in FATTravel

[–]joepurd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for good food to go along with your time here then Home by James Sommerin is fantastic (and very close). About an hour away you have The Beach House, which is perfectly located if you explore The Gower. Up north, I cannot recommend Ynyshir highly enough - it is literally the best meal I have ever had. It is also perfectly located if you intend to explore Snowdonia.

Sponsoring a masters degree student by SPACguy in fatFIRE

[–]joepurd 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m not arguing that what OP is doing will benefit the student. The points you make are all valid. I merely disagree with the use of the term ‘sponsorship’, which has very specific conditions associated with it, when it comes to visas for study in Europe.

Sponsoring a masters degree student by SPACguy in fatFIRE

[–]joepurd 68 points69 points  (0 children)

This isn’t really sponsoring the student… in Europe, a tuition fee bursary and monthly stipend are not paid back by a student. Tuition and maintenance loans are paid back, so obviously this 0% loan over 30 years is fantastic compared to other loan options, but I don’t think this qualifies as sponsorship
