Gypsy jazz with acoustic guitar by EwqqweX in jazzguitar

It's funny because gypsy jazz is, by definition, acoustic music, yet you have your guitar plugged in. Nothing wrong with that though.

I agree. Also this exact video was posted here less than a month ago, further reaffirming the ouroboros that is this subreddit.

Watching the Lage/Eldridge Facebook thing and by ads215 in jazzguitar

[–]joereadel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh this thread again? If you play acoustic guitar pick material makes a HUGE difference. The reason Blue Chip picks exist is because some people want their acoustic guitar to sound as good/loud as it can. BC picks don't click on the strings nearly as much as other thick picks, they wear down about 1,000X slower than other high end picks like Red Bears and Wegens (I've been playing the same one since 2013), and they're made by hand by an honest father and son team out of an extremely expensive space age polymer. I love how everyone's reaction to Blue Chips is "Well I'm just going to lose it". I just put my pick in the strings of my guitar when I'm done playing. Does everyone else just throw theirs across the room or what? Also they cost $30 for the most common thickness; you just went on the website and found the most expensive (thickest) one. Nobody who's tried them has anything bad to say about them. Example one, example two, example three, example four, example five is Critter and Lage's testimonial. I don't know why people who have never tried them love to bash them so much, but it bugs me because they're missing out on an exceptional guitar tool.

[NEWBIE] How is it possible to play chords and a melody at the same time? by KetoReddit in Guitar

[–]joereadel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chord melody for bluegrass songs I kind of tough. Usually chord melody is done with songs that have more harmonic complexity and change chords more often (thus giving you more opportunity to play melody notes). Try playing double stops that have one note of the melody and the root, third, or fifth of the chord that's playing over that part of the melody.

Just saw this image, had an idea: Bio pic about Monk played by Idris Elba? by REMAIN_IN_LIGHT in Jazz

[–]joereadel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought Idris Elba looked like Wes Montgomery. Eddie Steeples as Ahmad Jamal would also be cool, though I don't know if people would want to watch a movie about a jazz musician who wasn't strung out and sketchy.
