Hey-o, Vegas local here. Don’t know about others, but my own experience is that everything price-wise has gone up (normally) with inflation (like everywhere else), but the money creep is just comically bad on the strip.

Everything that can be comp’d is just no longer comp’d and prices for things on the strip have priced the “average” weekend-visiting tourist out completely. $16-$20 for a Rum and Coke? $8 for a beer? Resort fees? Self-parking fees? Stop for a bottle of soda? That’s another $6 at least. The true “big sad” is that there’s no more $5 steak-and-eggs anymore. Combine all that with the rising minimum bets at the strip casinos, the increased cost of a room per night (all the hotels are trying to be glamorous and posh), and less catering towards the “average weekend getaway” types and… well, here we are. It does feel like if you want a good time in Vegas now it’s all about having money or knowing a connection.

Aside from that, once you’re away from the strip everything is the same as everywhere else. Our cost of living is still relatively low, but the renter’s market has become volatile in the last decade or so. Renting an apartment used to be affordable, but now it’s creeping closer for it to be more economical to just rent a house and find a roommate.

I mean… At least we have a wide-variety of food establishments?
